The people4 marketplace and the recession

Now that the UK (and world) economy is in recession, we felt it would be useful to comment on the impact that we expect to occur on both Buyers and Sellers of services – and also the benefits to both Buyers and Sellers of using our low-cost platform during this difficult period.

The Buyer perspective (UK businesses)

In response to falling order books and the need to reduce costs, businesses are initially looking to reduce headcount in both permanent and contract staff. However, it is likely that there will ultimately be an increase in the demand for contract staff.

This is because businesses will find it considerably more economic to flex their staffing requirements on an individual project basis, rather than employing potentially under-utilized permanent staff. Through people4 you can quickly match your exact skill requirements «more»

Why people4? The people4 group of marketplaces for the buying and selling of services offer the largest public-access pool of contract resource at the lowest overall cost to UK companies.

Buyers benefit from: reduced costs and access to an incredible pool of talent with over 7,500 unique skills. If you haven’t yet used the sites, please take another look «more»

The people4 perspective

We have already seen increasing demand for our services – partly due to businesses seeking new, lower cost, solutions for engaging the services of freelancers, contractors and consultants and partly due to the increasing number of partnerships we are gaining, particularly within the engineering and health sectors.

In other news, we have launched a new 'Contractor showcase' on the people4business homepage, featuring our top Sellers.

Seller numbers continue to increase – to over 46,000 «more» – with new skills added all the time.

Latest stats…

The Seller perspective (freelancers, contractors and consultants)

As unemployment levels increase, it is likely that we are going to see more professionals entering the freelance market – including those who may previously have been in permanent employment, but now need to find alternative ways of earning income.

Why people4? This new population of Sellers will be searching for ways in which to market their services – people4, which offers free advertising to Sellers and guaranteed payment for contracts, will be an obvious choice. «more»

Sellers benefit from: free marketing of your skills and guaranteed payment for all contracts awarded through people4 – an increasingly valuable benefit during these troubling times.

How the recession impacts on you

For established freelancers and contractors, this influx of new Sellers to the market will increase competition and is likely to reduce average charge-out rates. It will become increasingly important for established freelancers, contractors and consultants to differentiate themselves from the rapidly increasing pool of talent available to business.

Our recommendations:

Please make sure that:

• Your people4 record is up-to-date
