Candidates – how does people4 work?

If there's anything you want to know that isn't on this page, please email candidate@people4.com

1. When you register

2. When you are shortlisted

3. When you apply for a job through the job board

4. When a Client contacts you

5. When you are awarded a contract

6. Your payments

1. When you register

I am a sole trader

I am trading as a limited company

What you need to know

For legal reasons you must be paid through a limited company – either your own or an umbrella company.

When you get a contract you will need to register with an umbrella company. We recommend people4payments, a service provided through our partner CXC.

You are also welcome to use another umbrella company.

What you need to know

As a limited company Candidate, we can pay you direct into your limited company bank account.

Your hourly rate

Your tax and national insurances (both employer and employee) will be deducted before you are paid through an umbrella company.

Please bear this in mind before setting your hourly rate.

Your rate cannot be less than the minimum wage.

We also recommend that you check out what Candidates with equivalent skills are charging as this gives a good indication of the appropriate rate.

2. When you are shortlisted

When you are shortlisted for an assignment, we will contact you – usually by phone, so please check that your contact details are up to date – to check that you are:

a. available for freelance work

b. interested in the assignment.

Only when we have confirmed your interest will we release your contact details to a Client.

3. If you apply for a job through the jobs board

If you apply for a job through the jobs board, you may not hear from us unless you are either

- shortlisted, in which case we will contact you directly; or

- rejected by the Client, in which case you should receive an email.

If you have applied for a job and are then shortlisted, we assume that you are both available and interested and will release your details immediately to the Client.

4. When a Client contacts you

You are free to discuss all the details of the assignment with your Client. But remember that any work from a Client who has contacted you through the site MUST be contracted through a people4business contract.

In all situations, you should not start work until and unless a contract has been agreed through the site.

We guarantee payment to Candidates, but only for work that is covered by an existing and agreed contract through the people4 sites.

5. When you are awarded a contract

When you are awarded a contract, you will then need to sign in to your homepage to agree the details.

When you get a contract

On your 'My Details' page you will now need to enter details of your umbrella company. We recommend people4payments, a service provided through our partner CXC.

You are also welcome to use another umbrella company.

When you get a contract

On your 'My Details' page you will now need to enter details of your limited company bank account.

Please note that we must pay into your limited company account, not your personal account.

6. Your timesheet

When you are working on a contract, you have access to your timesheet. If the contract has a specific number of hours, you should only enter that amount of hours.

Pre-pay Clients

Please note that we credit check all of our Clients. Those Clients who have a limited credit history may have to agree to maintain a top-up account.

If this is the case, we will release the number of hours they have paid for on to your timesheet.

You should never work hours that have not been agreed in advance by your Client and released onto your timesheet. If you work hours that have not been agreed and released onto your timesheet, we may not be able to pay you for these hours.

7. Getting paid

Our invoice cycle is usually monthly, although Clients can select a weekly cycle.

For a monthly invoicing cycle, we will pay you one month after the invoice is raised.

You can also select Fasterpay. For 4% of the invoice value, we can pay you within five working days of the invoice being raised.
