Data Architect

Paddington - London

Design new Data warehouse using SQL Server 2005 Beta2, CTP & release versions. Maintain/improve current warehouse using SQL Server 2000.

Responsibilities:

• Create and maintain logical and physical data models using ER/Studio.
• Design coding standards, best practice guides and templates.
• Design and implement code release strategy.
• Design ETL layer using SQL Server Integration Services.

Contract consisted of two assignments:
• Review disaster recovery procedures and implement required changes to backup jobs, review slow performing stored procedures, analyse indexes.
• Design and develop a solution for selective archiving of sets of data in a much normalised, highly transactional database. Techniques used included .NET transactions, delegates, threading, collections, extensive ADO.NET and complex stored procedures.

Varied role comprising database administration, web and windows development.

Responsibilities:
• Implementation and administration of SQL server databases, including installation, upgrades, backup strategy, security, normalisation, index tuning, capacity planning, data conversion and loading and other ad-hoc DBA roles.
• Liasing with different Finance departments to optimise systems integration, create data feeds, DTS packages, and reports and data replication solutions.
• Developing software for data manipulation, export/import, mapping, report generation, etc.
• Designing and developing software to extend the capabilities of the company’s accounting software including console applications, components and windows applications.

Achievements/Improvements made:
• Development of a suite of tools to automate system administration routines, interfaces between systems and file conversions. Successful implementation of these tools reduced administrative labour costs by more than 70% while it provided improved reliability and a consistent audit trail.

Professional Qualifications

Microsoft Certified Database Administrator (MCDBA) since 2003.

  • SQL Server Datawarehouse Specialist: We are looking for someone with very good experience of SQL Server (2000 and 2005 incarnations) with good experience of Reporting Services. The project is full Data Warehouse Life Cycle, from approving the hardware through to Design, Normalisation and delivering Reports to our Business Improvement Group and to other internal ICT divisions. The duration is very much under debate; with it more likely to be a contract term of about 6 months minimum.
  • SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services expert : SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services expert required for a new project based in North Yorkshire. Responsibilities include initial system set-up and configuration, cube design, business analysis and data loading/ETL work. Ideal person will have strong knowledge of business intelligence application design and implementation, particularly using the Microsoft toolsets.
  • MS SQL Server 2005 Specialist : We are looking for a MS SQL Server 2005 specialist to make some changes on our new product. The job is for approx. 3-5 days. Thank you
