My main duties and responsibilities were the management, development and maintenance of the IT functions and systems essential to the organisations at Durham, Ponteland, Harperly Hall and Harrogate sites, including:
• The line management, training and recruitment of technical grade staff.
• The proactive identification of IT developments and the evaluation of those applicable to the organisations.
• Liaison at a national level to co-ordinate Centrex IT development.
• Ensure staff received appropriate information and training to use the IT equipment, including induction training for all staff.
• Assist in the formulation of Centre policy with regard to IT work i.e. IT policies and procedures, Data protection, system administration and health and safety.
• Co-ordinate and produce estimates and budget proposals for all IT needs.
Managed Projects at CENTREX
Network:
• North East departments had very poor network connections or none at all; they now have. WAN upgrade to 1Megabit per second from 166K, 100Mbits to desktop and 1GHts link by fiber to buildings. Development room for all network and IT related projects. New network switches HP. New server rooms fully air-conditioned. Networked printers and photocopiers are monitored with HP WebJet admin. New networked classrooms for 41 student computers. All quotations for network points to bring centers up to today’s standards. VHS video lessons changed to digital format to be shown over the network. New DHCP and Proxy server, using Linux and Broadband connection.
Hardware and Software:
• Role out of computer systems and printers. New department specification and installation of IT equipment. New IT induction room for staff and trainers. Role out of AV equipment in classrooms. Re-Imaging of PC’s using Deploy centre or Zen works.
