09/05-01/06 GE Corporate Fleet Services Contract assistance in conversion of an in-house fleet finance administration system written in Clipper (S87) to a third party Oracle / Java application (Miles). Skills involved are Clipper, Perl, XML, XSLT, JavaScript, Oracle SQL. Requires understanding legacy clipper code, converting functionality to an XML based application, and writing XSLT transforms to provide input / output in required format. This also involves database analysis, functional and field mapping within an object oriented application. Then translating the results into SQL for data extraction by / processing by the XML application. Some functionality has to be provided externally via Perl scripts. It has also involved writing small utilities in Clipper.
07/04-12/04 Xerox Office Products, Bourne End, Bucks 6 month Contract creating Crystal Reports Enterprise (7.5 and 10) into Oracle (8i, 10i) databases. The more complex reports consisted of several sub-reports, joining multiple tables, passing variables as well as multiple complex formulae. Performance was important as the reports ran against Oracle and Crystal servers based in the USA. Required writing PL/SQL scripts to extract and check the data before converting the data extraction routines to Crystal format.

10/00-09/03 South African Diamond Workers Union Designed, built and implemented a networked, client / server Pension / Sick / Unemployment Fund Administration and Reporting System for the Diamond Cutting Industry of South Africa. The initial work was to make the original DOS Clipper S87 / Clipper 5 code ‘Year 2000 compatible’. This extended into a complete redesign and rebuild of the system as a client / server based on Delphi 5 (using OOP techniques), MS Access 2000, Crystal Reports 9, XML and ADO platforms. System was also designed to migrate to SQLServer 2000. The system controlled membership of the Union, the Sick Fund, the Unemployment Fund and the Pension Fund. It included cheque generation, image processing (cataloguing and retrieving Microfiche images from CD). The 100+ reports included legal reports to the Receiver of Revenue and the Registrar of Pension Funds; pension projection letters with complex formulae having financially binding results; letters; cross tabulations; graphics.
02/00-10/00 SANLAM, Johannesburg Designed, built and implemented an Employee Loan Administration system for Financial Institute - providing internal and external company reporting and controls. Platforms were Access 97, VB6 and Crystal Reports 7. The system also provided import from and export to EDT systems. The system was used to control loans of up to R25000 (£2000) made to employees of subscribing companies under the control of a major building society. The system kept track of all loans, payment history, personnel history (including address changes) and also provided agent tracking information.
10/99-02/00 Confidential Designed, built and implemented a Project Management / Drawing Office Time Management and Reporting System. The system used Access 2000, ADO, VB6 and Crystal Reports 7; and replaced a DOS based Clipper system.
08/99-10/99 First National Bank, Head Office, Johannesburg Designed, provided technical support and project managed a signature verification system for a major Banking group. The system was based on VB5 and Access97. The initial work was a conversion from Clipper and PCX format scans. The system captured scanned signatures of authorised personnel and produced ‘signature’ books’ which were distributed to the bank’s branches as a verification tool.
04/99-08/99 AFROX Health Care (BOC Subsidiary), Johannesburg Senior Systems Analyst / Programmer - converting Health Care system from Access 2.0 to VB6 and SQL Server 6.5 for major Health Care system provider. The VB code used OOP against SQL tables and stored procedures. Responsibilities included code and GUI system design against a set of business cases, and creating stored procedures for input and reporting.
