My job scope involved providing embedded Linux expertise for a new line of network storage product.
Key Contributions:
· Designed and prototyped an embedded Linux solution for network attached
storage product.
· Set up and provided support for Linux development tool chain.
· Ported U-boot boot loader for a custom hardware platform.
· Developed the embedded web administration solution for the product.

was then transferred to the firmware development team in charge of the digital send
solution. The digital send solution enabled customer to connect their multi-function
printer with their PCs through email or Windows network share.
Key Contributions:
· Enhanced our Windows network sharing solution with the latest secure
authentication mechanism.
· Reverse-engineered and implemented several Microsoft-specific protocol
extensions, previously unknown outside Microsoft.
· Proposed comprehensive testing infrastructure for the digital send solution.

My role was to take charge of the company’s Linux development. This arrangement allowed them to concentrate on their core competencies in hardware design while atthe same time leveraging on my expertise in Linux development. Some of the projects I was involved in are:
· Linux device driver for CF-based digital broadcast tuner.
· Linux device driver for USB HID device.
· Custom tiny Linux distribution for embedded network storage device.
· Simple DHCP-like boot up protocol for embedded network device.

I was responsible for the delivery of Windows software solution (printing software,
device driver, and installer solution) for HP Business Printing Division’s (BPD) first
multi-functions printer (MFP) OfficeJet 9100 series. Since this was the first multifunctions project done outside the United States, the project required me to actively travel and collaborate with other HP offices in the United States and HP outsourcing partners in India.
Key Contributions:
· Delivered HP’s first multi-function printer software solution done outside the
United States, on budget and on time.
· Reduced customer call rate for installation problem by streamlining the
installation flow in consultation with the customer satisfaction and marketing divisions.
· Reduced the average customer call duration by providing tools to assist
customer support agent in guiding user during installation problem.
· Rated “Significantly Exceeding Expectations”, the highest rank given to HP
employee during the annual performance evaluation.

The company’s core product, the gRNA (Genome Research Network Architecture) was a highly programmable research platform for biological sciences. I was assigned to work on the data and middleware group, with assignments ranging from implementing XML-to-relational biological database, designing high performance distributed API, to developing the bio-informatics workflow engine.
Key Contributions:
· Designed and implemented various components for gRNA platform, including the database, the middleware, the high performance computing API, and the workflow engine.
· Promoted into the team lead position for database and middleware group. I was in charge of giving technical direction to a team of 3 engineers.
· Represented the company in various events, including several academic
conferences in Singapore and Canada. I was also working closely with our
academic customers, including NTU and University of Tokyo.
· Co-author several academic papers with researchers from NTU. The papers
were published in international journal and conference proceeding (Refer to the “Research and Publications” section for more information).

I was one of the two students selected from NTU to be sent to San Jose, California, for Industrial Attachment programme. The company was a solution provider for webbased video streaming based on their proprietary technology as well as Real Media and Windows Media Player technology.
Key Contributions:
· Proposed and managed the company’s migration to a centralized source
control system.
· Worked alongside third party web developers in developing company’s product showcase website.
· Implemented client-side portion of the video streaming protocol based on
company’s proprietary technology.
