CV (Curriculum Vitae) / Résumé

An experienced professional who has grown from fulfilling a variety of roles and draws upon that experience to make the most effective use of available resources and deliver quality throughout the successful completion of a range of projects. He has repeatedly demonstrated the ability to manage the expectations of others and offer support to both clients and colleagues alike. At the base is an individual who strives to minimise the complexity of a process by communicating honestly and effectively whilst sustaining a persistent and tenacious work ethic.

Experience Services and Support Offered.

Production Management: experience of a variety of print-production processes including Lithographic (web and sheetfed), Flexographic, Gravure, Screen and Digital printing. I have worked on both sides of the supply fence as a buyer and as a production controller. This has enabled me to identify and resolve potential issues before the project reaches the printer in question. The project “types” I have experience of managing include Point of Sale, Direct Mail, Magazine Printing, Promotional Marketing & Merchandise, Vehicle, Window and Building Wraps, Static and Temporary Promotional Billboards, General sheetfed work such as Brochures, Leaflets etc. I was recently responsible for handling the print-production for Quaker’s bar amnesty activity.

Outsourcing: experience of procuring a wide variety of services. Including repro, film conversion, specialist printing, finishing and packaging. In addition I have outsourced non-print related solutions such as software development and engineering. On my last project I was tasked with outsourcing the print, construction and rigging of a number of bespoke, branded structures for Nokia to support their marketing activity at the O2 Wireless and Carling Weekend festivals.

Additional support including a fresh pair of eyes: in addition to offering assistance with production management and outsourcing I also offer outsourcing support to an existing client and or a production department. Undertaking cost consultancy work, which includes the comparative analysis of supplier rosters. This can ensure that a client is buying as competitively as possible in addition to enhancing existing production capacity to enable them to outsource a wider range of products and services for their clients or enable a client to bring outsourcing inhouse. This service can also include (where requested) a qualitative assessment of an existing supplier portfolio and where necessary the mapping and appraisal of the existing buying process. Sometimes supplier problems can be resolved with third party analysis and mapping of the buying process from creation of artwork to the packing benches and dispatch. The process ends with the professional presentation of recommendations designed to assist the client in making systematic improvements to the existing buying process. My approach assisted Viacom Outdoor in transforming their existing production department from the role of a cost centre to that of an effective and autonomous profit centre.

Career History

From 2003 to the present day I have chosen to freelance, delivering regularly and most recently a production management service to Haygarth, working on a number of projects for their core client Nokia.

From April 2001 to April 2002 I worked for BT-Phonesites as Operations Manager, reporting to their Managing Director, Mike Tocknell.

From Sept 2000 to April 2001 I worked for Taxi Media as Production Manager, reporting to their Operations Director, Nigel West.

From Sept 1996 to Sept 2000 I worked for Viacom Outdoor as Production Executive, reporting to their Head of Production, Spike Hallissey.

From June 1994 - Sept 1996, I worked for Augustus Martin as Production Controller, reporting to their Head of Production, Jeff James.

Employment History

(Apr 2002 & ongoing)

Freelance

London

Since April 2002 I have worked in a freelance capacity for a number of clients and agencies in and around London.

Responsibilities and achievements

Outsourcing and coordinating a range of print production projects including outdoor, ambient and general large format branding, point of sale, magazines, direct mail and promotional marketing materials and merchandise. I recently completed a number of field marketing projects for Haygarth on behalf of their top client Nokia. One project required the outsourcing of the supply, construction and branding of a number of promotional structures onsite at the Carling weekend (Reading & Leeds) and the O2 Wireless festival (Hyde Park) in the UK.

On behalf of Nokia USA I was responsible for outsourcing a point of sale campaign to support the launch of the N-Gage handset. The US based client in question insisted on the production being handled in the US and consequentially I had to negotiate with and visit a number of suppliers in the United States.

In addition to offering an outsourcing service for specific projects I offer cost consultancy where I carry out a comparative analysis of supplier costs for previous projects along with a qualitative assessment of the existing supplier base and buying processes entailing where necessary process mapping.

(Apr 2001 to Apr 2002)

Operations Manager

London

BT-Phonesites had sole responsibility for managing the sales and fulfilment of outdoor advertising campaigns on British Telecom’s stock of telephone kiosks in the United Kingdom. The company sought to establish BT kiosk external sites (“Streetsites”) as a major static offering alongside established and competing street level products such as Six Sheets and other street level billboard sites.

Responsibilities and achievements

Working towards the strategic objectives of the company I managed a team of three, with responsibility for liasing with internal and external clients along with third party suppliers to manage all aspects of campaign delivery including outsourcing print and production, coordinating campaign posting, new product development and mapping and site selection. Specific achievements include:

The design and development of new products for the Streetsites medium, adding value to the existing stock and enhancing interest amongst new and existing clients. An essential aspect of this area was the development and management of close relationships with key staff at British Telecom, clients and third party suppliers. In addition to monitoring technological advancements and advising on potential development opportunities for the medium. Working alongside both BT and a number of engineering companies I project managed the design and development of planned improvements to the existing stock to deliver a solid and more desirable exterior display.

Responsibility for project managing enhancements to the existing Geographical Information System (GIS) to ensure greater accuracy with respect to site selection for general and campaign specific purposes. This enabled the company to benefit further from the inherited advantage of having pre-existing sites in high street areas with few alternate outdoor sites and enabled them to differentiate the Streetsites medium through an enhanced ability to select key sites on a client-by-client basis.

Working alongside key supply partners I project managed the development of a bespoke perforated vinyl for external branding as an alternate option to the costly and patented Contravision product with a view to reducing production costs and lead-times.

(Sep 2000 to Apr 2001)

Production Manager

Taxi Media & BT-Phonesites, London

Production Manager

Taxi Media was the leading London style Taxi advertising contractor in the UK prior to the company being purchased by Clear Channel leading to the separation of the two companies operating under the Associated Media Holdings umbrella.

Responsibilities and achievements

On joining Taxi Media & Phonesites I was tasked with managing a team of two to address historical failings with respect to campaign production. Specific achievements include:

Management of all aspects of print production for advertising campaigns across both companies including the development of an extensive supplier portfolio in order to expand production capacity, enabling the procurement of a wider range of products and services.

The development and implementation of new processes and systems to manage all aspects of production and bring greater efficiency and capacity to the business, with the aim of enabling it to sell later and consequentially improve its competitiveness within the outdoor market.

Design and development of new products for both companies to create interest within the outdoor market, this entailed the management of relationships with internal and external clients along with key departments within British Telecom, the Public Carriage Office and Transport for London to ensure successful fulfilment.

The development of an extensive supplier base to improve capacity, lead-times and cost benefits.
