.NET Developer (Contractor, 5 extensions)

I initially provided support for the VB6 back office application. Later, I developed cross council (currently thirteen councils) and public, (universities & organisations), web services. I was responsible for producing the guidelines for Web Service Architecture, used throughout EPSRC. All web services were developed using VB.NET.

Since March 2007, I have been working in a team of six redeveloping the JeS web site using the .NET framework v2.0.

JeS (Joint Electronic Submission) - ongoing
Handles the submission and processing of grant applications from business and academic applicants. I’m, involved in the redevelopment of the application using .NET framework v2.0, employing a mix of C# and VB.

ChangeRequest WebService - 18 months
Three man project to implement a queuing system for change requests to key data held within the CDR (Common Data Repository, a cross council database). I developed the web services to add requests (used by back office systems of individual councils) as well as view and process requests (used by cross council web applications).

CDR Data Services Web Service - 3 months
I developed a set of .NET Web Services to expose read only data from the CDR, to be used by other councils and known universities & organisations. This web service was developed using C#.

Reference Data Download Web Service - 3 months
I developed a set of .NET Web Services to expose limited CDR data to public consumers.

CDR Web Service - 6 months
I developed a set of .NET Web Services to expose functionality to add, retrieve and update key data within the CDR, used by other councils as part of the Governments e-strategy.

JeS Web Service - 3 months
I developed a set of .NET Web Services to expose search functionality for key data within the CDR. Used in the JeS (Joint Electronic Submission) web site.

Shared Data - 2 years
Back office system for maintaining key data (Organisation, Department and Person). Includes a set of common components (dll’s and ocx’s) used by several company wide back office applications. Developed in Visual Basic v6. Working in a team of three, providing support and change control.

Originally a 6 week contract to cover staff sick leave, but they kept finding work for me to do!

Programme Management Information System - 6 weeks
A recording, monitoring and reporting intranet application for all major projects and programmes. Developed in Visual Basic v6 as an ActiveX Document, sitting on SQL Server v7 via ADO v2.1. This was a one-man project, from database design right through to rollout.

Contacts - 6 months
Company wide Intranet application (ActiveX Document) of all internal and external institution\organisation contact details. One-man project developed in Visual Basic v6, sitting on SQL Server v7 via ADO v2.1, (heavy use of T-SQL), employing Crystal Reports v8.0.

Star Quoting - 6 months
A pricing tool used by Star salesmen to calculate set-up and monthly prices of any particular product and all its component permutations. Developed in Visual Basic v6, sitting on SQL Server v7 via ADO v2.6, employing Crystal Reports v7.0. A one-man project successfully handed over to a permanent employee.

EPIC - 2 months
An automated Direct Debit processing system. Developed using Visual Basic v6, talking to SQL Server v6.5 via ADO v2.6. The application processed Direct Debit instructions from BACS and AUDDIS files, making heavy use of stored procs. I worked as the sole developer, together with an external consultant, adhering to a formal specification and installing the application for Halifax International in Jersey.

Working as a member of the Microsoft Development Team, all development was in Visual Basic v6.0 and SQL Server v7 (via ADO 2.5). Adopting a RAD approach, (DSDM), with involvement from pre-sales efforts through to implementation and support. All projects were one-man developments.

Project Office Intranet - 3 months
Company wide Intranet for IT project estimations input and adhoc querying. Developed using Visual InterDev utilising HTML, ASP and VB Script.

Banking & Remittance Processing - 9 months
A financial reconciling system to input and cross-reference (auto and manually) all payments made to NE with physical bankings, fully complying with company audit requirements.

Store & Forward Buffer - 7 months
FTP system for sending data files between Regional Electricity Companies. I developed a suite of 3 applications as part of SFB; Query Tool: performs user generated adhoc queries; Admin Tool: system set-up for SFB; Monitor Tool: server-side application to auto-alert upon any occurrence of SFB transfer errors.

Complaints - 6 months
Records all written complaints received by Northern Electric. Produces standard reports for OFGEM requirements and adhoc queries\charts for management information.

Regulation 34 - 2 months
Records hazardous incidents for Department of Trade & Industry reporting. Produces adhoc queries\charts and a monthly DTI data file. Single user system sitting on Access ’97.

Data conversion tool for a data-mining web application, developed by a 3rd party supplier. I provided on site application support, liaising with the 3rd party developers and producing management reports.

Sovereign Commercials - 8 months
Working in a team of 6, converting the DOS accountancy systems using Visual Basic v5.0 and Crystal Reports v4.5 sitting on an in-house DBMS (C+). I worked from tight design specs, adhering to the stringent unit testing following predefined scripts, before passing to a UAT team. Strict and regular code reviews were in practise, with emphasis on conforming to Microsoft Design Guidelines.

Customer Services System (Operations Integration) - 9 months
CSS handled all aspects of customer enquiries and actioned jobs. I worked as developer in a team of five, rewriting the current Cobol/Mainframe system using Visual Basic v5 and SQL Server v6.5. My work involved close liaising with Cobol programmers and expert users.

Correspondence Management System (Admin Node) - 2 months
CMS was a workflow application handling written correspondence received by Welsh Water from its customers. The Administration Node allowed team leaders to amend agent details within CMS. Written in Visual Basic v4 with SQL Server v6.5 (via DB Library) as the back end. I solely developed this application from a high level functional specification.

Correspondence Management System (Allocation Node) - 4 months
The Allocation Node of CMS dealt with the allocating of incoming mail to individual agents. The system also allowed the viewing of an image of the received letter (Watermark via OLE) as well as any reply (Word via DDE). The system also produced on-screen and printed statistical reports and charts for both management and Director General analysis, using Crystal Reports v4.5. I worked as the sole developer (Visual Basic v5) for this application, liasing with several business analysts and end users directly.

Cliniaud - 1 month
Short term contract working on the final stages of development of a clinical auditing system, Cliniaud. The package provided a means for collating and analysing auditing information for HealthTrust authorities. Written in FoxPro v2.6, I worked mainly on bug fixing and enhancements. A 6 week contract that I completed in 4!

Document Production, Storage & Retrieval - 8 months
Creates and views merged documents in RTF from within a calling application. I was solely responsible for the design, documentation and development of the entire application, working from a high level functional specification and with the end users directly. This system was written in FoxPro v2.6, heavily interfacing with Word v6.0 (via DDE), for which I wrote several Word macros.
