Employment History

(Sep 2006 to Mar 2007)

Project Manager (Contract)

London

Kyak Systems is a City based Consultancy who specialises in end-to-end delivery management for the rollout of Next Generation networks and solutions within the telecoms sector. As a Project Manager I was involved in two major projects for BT PLC - 21st Century Network (21CN) and iVPN (BT MPLS). We used Kyak’s proprietary enterprise Agile delivery methodology (based on a number of recognised Agile methodologies) in both projects.
• 21CN
I was responsible for the GS Voice area of this project. We applied our delivery methodology and defined hundreds of use case deliverables (thirty day iterations). I tracked the delivery of the use cases and produced weekly metrics and project reports for the BT Programme Director. The role also entailed running regular project meetings, stakeholder management, managing the project risks and issues (component dependencies, iVV&T issues, automated test issues, 3rd part supplier issues).
• iVPN (BT MPLS)
Kyak was engaged to apply our delivery methodology to the iVPN project. This massive BT Global Services project is cantered around maintaining the BT MPLS range of products and services. The role involved working with the Global Services management team to apply true agile practices to their programme. We ran a series of workshops and elaborated their requirements into user stories and use cases. We also assessed priorities and sized the deliverables in preparation for engaging the One IT delivery factory.

(Sep 2005 to Aug 2006)

Responsible for defining an IT strategy to take the Company forward to ensure that as the turnover and staff levels increase, the infrastructure and applications are adequate. The work included:
• Auditing the hardware, infrastructure and processes.
• Creating an IT Road Map for the Company which defined changes to the IT infrastructure, changes to the IT Department, a list of Business As Usual changes and the creation of a formal IT policy.
• Working with the HR Manager to interview candidates to appoint an IT Co-ordinator
• Negotiating contracts with third party IT companies.
• Managing an IT work stack and project plan.

(Jan 2004 to Aug 2005)

Project Manager (Contract)

British Telecommunications PLC , Ipswich

Responsible for managing the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) of an ordering system for BT MPLS and for managing a Business As Usual (BAU) team to maintain the existing ordering system. The team size varied from five to about thirty people as the project ramped up. The application was written in ASP.Net (90% VB.Net, 10% C#) and had an Oracle database at the back end. We used a typical three tier architecture (GUI, BO, Database).

The initial, scope was to create an ASP.Net ordering system for the world wide sales teams to use. I secured 340K funding for the project. I managed the project using a Lloyds accredited Waterfall approach. However, during the first phase of the development IT in BT underwent a huge transformation (One IT) which radically altered my project. The Waterfall approach was replaced with Agile practices and we moved to 90 day cycles. I made a presentation at a Hothouse and was given approval to extend the functionality of the application to include a Weblogic link to the back office provisioning system (Classic), a link to the DSL Availability Checker system and an XML bulk site loader. My application became central to the provisioning process for BT MPLS and as a result we were given more budget and resources. The team size increased rapidly as we brought in resource from Infosys and MBT.
I worked closely with a team from Accenture in Madrid and OSS solution designers in the UK. I ran and was involved in numerous design workshops in the UK, Madrid and Amsterdam. All of the design work was carried out using UML and Use Cases.
