CV

I’ve been working in London as a graphic designer and creative director for 16 years. My first seven years were employed across an array of creative projects and for the following nine years I’ve been working as a very busy freelancer. I’ve worked across print and digital media with particular expertise in branding and design for print for a wide spectrum of clients from corporate to cultural to the arts. I’ve recently won an award for branding at the International Design Awards.

Employment History

(Jan 1999 & ongoing)

Graphic designer and art director

London

I continue to work successfully with a growing range of diverse clients from the corporate world to the vibrant world of culture and the arts. I work independently or in collaboration with a fluid team of creatives and account managers dependant on project requirements. My personal focus is on creating outstanding graphic design, which can then be applied across various media formats.

My work encompasses a full range of marketing and promotional creativity from printed material to digital solutions. I manage and co-ordinate projects through their full lifecycle from initial client briefing to final delivery, very often to challenging deadlines.

Work produced includes full brand identities and their application, multi-faceted promotional campaigns, editorial design and exhibition branding.

My design work and photography have appeared in exhibitions both nationally and internationally.

Recent award: Best Identity (Bronze) at the International Design Awards – Los Angeles.

Clients include: Eat Natural, Green Flag, LB Newham, LB Tower Hamlets, Logica, Mini, NHS, Philips, Royal Festival Hall, Sema Group, Shoreditch Trust

(Jan 1998 to Jan 1999)

Art editor

London

The Builder Group is a leading publisher of magazines devoted to architecture and design.
As art editor I solely managed the design and simultaneous re-design of an architectural business magazine. Designing 30 pages of editorial each week, this magazine was a true test of creative consistency with very demanding deadlines. Working closely with photographers, writers and sub-editors ensured invaluable experience in organisational skills whilst remaining highly creative.
Reason for leaving: A number of independent clients invited me to undertake diverse creative projects

(Oct 1992 to Dec 1997)

Senior graphic designer

Victor Lambie Media , London

Barkers Creative is an award-winning creative agency with a number of high profile Blue Chip clients.
As senior graphic designer my position demanded prolific creative output alongside managing a multi-disciplined team and large projects. Varied creative work included global advertising campaigns across all media formats, creating brand identities, developing brand guidelines and producing high quality printed material in the form of brochures, point of sale and exhibition graphics.
Reason for leaving: Offered a significant position at The Builder Group

(Jun 1991 to Oct 1992)

Magazine designer

Tan, Birmingham

Tan was a very progressive style and culture magazine aimed at the flourishing young urban scene.
My responsibilities on this energetic and adrenalin-charged publication went beyond my working title and along with designing every element of visual communication I also had significant involvement in editorial content, photography, research and writing. The creative style I developed at this stage was often highly experimental and challenging for the equally demanding young and vibrant audience.
Reason for leaving: Offered a significant position at Victor Lambie Media

(Jun 1988 to Jun 1989)

Layout artist

Birmingham Star, Birmingham

The Birmingham Star is a Midlands-wide newspaper.
My responsibilities involved working with the editor and journalists to create supporting visuals for news stories through illustration or photography and to produce and layout a number of advertising pages.
Reason for leaving: Offered a place at Birmingham School of Art & Design
