Contract System Tester, working on the genesisplus product. This product was developed for the new NETA electricity generating rules and traders. The testing included the production of test specifications, test scenarios, test data and test scripts, as well as the actual running of the tests themselves. I also had to raise and progress problem reports.

Contract Test Team Leader, responsible for all aspects of testing of the Property Management System product. I was brought in to introduce formal testing methodologies to the project and raise the standard of the product. This involved test strategy design, test management, production of all levels of test documentation, the testing of the product on all current versions of Windows and the production of test reports.

Contract System Tester in Test & Integration, working on proving change requests and problem reports to the Customer. These could be changes to any of the main systems, hardware and/or software modifications and additions/changes to the operating systems themselves. I was working on the management of software reintroduction/reintegration, hardware additions/changes/removals and new issues/upgrades of the AIX operating system.

There was also web testing involved in two of the products, both Internet and Intranet versions.

HIS Limited Harlow, Essex Mar 1997 – Jun 1997
Contract Tester, working for the above Company at BT Labs, Martlesham Heath, Ipswich. I was working on the testing of the GeoTel Intelligent Call Router (forerunner of the Genesys program). I received training from the product supplier on the use of the System Administration workstation for such tasks as the production of scripts to automate the routing of ‘free–fone’ and ‘lo–call’ numbers (0800, 0345, etc) to the service centres. I was also required to produce a couple of test programs in Visual Basic to control the functions of both an internal PC GPIB (IEEE–488) bus controller card and an Aspect/Meridian Agent Controller.

Audatex (UK) Limited Theale, Reading, Berks Jan 1997 – Feb 1997
Contract Test Team Leader for the main Company product, having been rewritten in Delphi for the Windows environment. Testing was performed on both the original DOS product and the new Windows version prior to issue for beta testing. The full functionality of the Windows product was evaluated against the DOS original using networked PCs, the mainframe AS/400 and portable PCs.

Contract Test Engineer, working in the Systems Test department on the GAZPROM Telecoms project for a foreign customer. The job involved the testing of both the individual base stations and the regional and inter–regional aspects of the project on Marconi’s generic test system. Testing was performed on a representative hardware rig, and the tests were developed on a UNIX system.

Contract Test Engineer, working in the Test & Integration department. I was responsible for the OSI and verification testing of the various systems that made up the RADNET project for the CAA. The job entailed the production of test specifications, test scripts and test reports to fully test the various systems against their requirements. The job was broadened to include full RDP testing for NERC at Swanwick.

I was given the additional responsibility of Software Test Authority for the project. The job involved liaison with the Customer, the production of the Project Software Test Plan, the production of Test Procedures and general test guidance to the Project management and membership.
