CV

I am currently the online marketing manager for an internet based company in Surrey.

In total the company has eighteen employees, seven of whom are my direct responsibility on a day to day management basis.

The company I currently work for have a wide and varied portfolio of 'self owned' sites, including portals, news, finance, jobs, online shops and niche dating sites.

I use on a daily basis skills connected with Search Engine Optimisation (SEO), Search Engine Marketing (SEM), Pay-Per-Click (PPC), keyword mining, and own / competitor site analysis. I use and am familiar with numerous SEO and SEM software packages (both online and stand alone).

PPC wise, I manage a Google Adword account that has a spend level that entitles the company to have a personal account manager at Google (Ireland). I also manage a 'platinum' spend level Yahoo Search Marketing account. I am familiar with MSN adcentre, although through thorough research and site visitor tracking, as a company we no longer use this medium as an online advertising resource, as visitors generated from MSN ads to the company sites have proved historically to be unresponsive - they may of course prove to be an effective means of advertising your website. If so, I have used and am familiar with this paid advertising platform.

I am familiar with several of the other 'also ran' PPC sites and manage accounts with numerous other online advertising mediums.

I am / have been responsible for placement of ads and revenue generation via Google Adsense on several of the company's websites.

I have sourced and joined numerous relevant affiliate programs. Some of these being 'run of site', others target page specific. These affiliate programs have been used effectively to generate additional company income on site pages that may have otherwise been difficult to generate direct 'paid' sponsorship revenue via third party companies.

I have been involved in the design of internal company tracking software that measures site visitor activity. This software was created in order to allow statistic based decisions on site marketing spend. In various guises this software allows a true estimation of visitor 'worth' and can therefore be used to tightly control pay per click expense. The software also measure effectiveness of paid advertising on any site allowing for decisions to be made on paid site advertising value.

Since Google's acquisition of 'Urchin', I also use Google Analytics to measure site visitor activity, and make decisions on our site's marketing strategy based on cold hard facts.

I have been involved in the conception, design and implementation of bespoke site affiliate software, initially for use on our own stable of sites in order to maximise site advertising reach through paid on result marketing. More recently, I have been involved in the 'selling' of this company product to other clients.

I manage an affiliate database of over 400 independent webmasters, who market the company's sites on an affiliate paid on performance basis. This enables the company to extend it's advertising 'reach' beyond the traditional online methods.

I have been involved in the conception, design and launch of several successful commercial websites. Most notably, I am the driving force behind a very successful niche dating website.

This dating site is regularly featured in the national press, I have been involved with radio interviews regarding the site. These interviews (both newspaper and radio) are held online on the site in question's 'press' area and I will happily divulge the URL if you are interested in progressing this further with me.

I have client facing experience and have been involved in the quoting for and execution of work on the behalf of other companies by my present employer. I am happy to deal with clients if required by my future employer, either acting on the client's behalf or on a 'knowledge share' basis.

I am taking a step back from my current role, although as a share holder I will still have some involvement with my current employer's online marketing strategy, in an advisory basis and occasional remote management of staff tasks.

I love the challenge of the 'new'. I have a wide and unusual employment background, which includes thirteen years service as a Metropolitan police officer (I was medically retired in 2003 at the age of 31). Perhaps this is the main reason why I have an inquisitive mind, I love to get to the bottom of things and find out the 'why' in site performance - I am also used to working to timescales and producing paperwork / reports to a high standard.

Ideally I would like to be able to split my new role between home / office, (I have a cabin in the garden which I use as a home office.) I would be willing to attend office meetings, or work if required in short term 'office based' roles.

I am happy to work as part of a team, or on my own if required. References can be provided on request.

If you are interested in progressing this further, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Employment History

(Mar 2004 to Aug 2007)

Marketing Manager

Surrey

Please see general overview for details of this employment.

(Aug 1990 to Aug 2003)

Police Officer

London

I joined the Metropolitan Police Service at eighteen years of age as a 'full time' police cadet. On successful graduation, I moved to Hendon Police College in August 1991 and completed initial police training.

I worked mainly in the East End of London and in many varied roles.

I spent time near the end of my police service working in the Intelligence Office, during this time I developed an interest in IT, website design and search engine optimisation and site performance.

This hobby, (little did I know it) was to become initially a 'declared business interest' whilst employed in the police, and my full time career on early medical retirement due to being assaulted whilst making an arrest.

I was medically retired in August 2003 and worked for a few months in a self employed basis as a full time internet marketing affiliate. It was during this time that I met an employee of my most recent company, who introduce me to the company as there was a job vacancy in SEO and PPC.

Professional Qualifications

I have the usual 'o' levels, which unfortunately I haven't got any proof of, due to losing the certificates in a house move a number of years ago. My qualifications however are verifiable by my police personnel files if they need to be checked.

I gained numerous qualifications during my police career, most are unfortunately unusuable for use in normal every day life! One course which I particulary enjoyed however enabled me to be one of only two surviellance camera trained officers on the area that I worked. This qualification inturn allowed me to become involved in a number of high profile cases, that required the standard and quality of my evidence to stand up against thorough cross examination at Crown Court.

I am a qualified CENTREX police recruit assessor. I am able to perform, (after completing a week long training course) various roles during the police recrutiment selection process; including interview, role play, and assessment and marking of both written and practical exams.

I am able to complete paperwork to a very high standard. I have for example completed client reports for presentation website marketing wise on behalf of my previous company and at the other end of the spectrum, I have completed Crown Court level paperwork for presentation to a Judge and jury.

I am a confident individual; at one point in my police career I held the role of Borough Briefing Officer. In this role I had to prepare and present daily intelligence briefings to officers from the rank of Constable to Commander.

I am a team player: I have worked on many levels with teams of various sizes both throughout my police career and my last employment.

I have management experience: In my last role I built from scratch a department and managed a team of six individuals, with varied IT skills, who performed multiple roles on numerous company websites.

I have been involved with the development and launch of numerous successful ecommerce websites, including information portals, news, finance, jobs and dating sites.
