Work Experience
Inalfa UK Limited . Product Engineer -November 2004 - Present
Reporting to the Engineering Manager my main duties were product development, problem resolution and CAD. The products being produced are sunroofs for OEM customers. I work with a small team of engineers to problem solve and to reduce cost using VA/VE. I would also be responsible for making engineering changes using the Company's internal system. I work closely with the Test engineers to enable development and testing to be carried out to ensure validation of the product. I would cross over and work alongside process engineering. I would develop processes, tools and write work instructions. Communication between head office in Holland and myself in the UK was on a daily basis working alongside my counterpart engineers to pass information and utilise lessons learnt onto other projects and benchmark across all our product range. I would also travel over seas regularly to visit customers and deal with ongoing technical problems.
Bentley Motor CompanyTest Engineer (Contract) August 2004 - November 20004
Test Engineer. I worked within the Test and Measurement Department of the prototype build shop. I would carry out a wide range of tests for various departments. Engineers from various departments would discuss the components and testing requirements and what they were looking to achieve. I would then design and build a system to allow the test to be carried out.
This would be made up of pneumatic systems and electronic equipment to control the test. Some of the tests would be carried out for Government departments, while they were on site to over see the test. This was part of type approval system for the new vehicle I was working on. There would be a large number of different tests carried out on a number of different components. Once the test was carried out the results and findings were collated, written into a report and distributed to the relevant people.
Delphi Automotive Systems (Contract) September 2003 - July 2004
I worked in two departments in time at Delphi. I worked in the Quality department. This job involved checking the torques and final assemblies prior to being sent out to the customer. When a problem was found it was my position to ensure that the team leader for the area was notified and was allowed to rework the component. Once it had been reworked I would recheck the component. I would take the information back to the quality Manager, so it could be logged and charted to show the quality within the plant.
The second position was working on the production line producing components. This would involve using hand tools and special equipment to ensure the components were assembled correctly and at the correct speed to ensure the customer obtained the parts at the correct time.
Amethyst Motor CompanyWarranty Controller December 2002 - July 2003
Warranty Controller. I would report to the Managering Director, my position was to run two warranty departments for two separate franchises, which were on the same site. The position involved me talking to customers at the reception desk to get an understanding of their problem with their car. I would then write a short report for the technician so he/she would understand the problem. As soon as the technician had finished the car I would then take his findings and place them into the manufacturers warranty screen. The dealer had a live connection to the head office. If the claim was accepted, I would then process the paper work, so when the manufacturer paid for the work it could be matched up and taken off the unpaid account. If the claim was unsuccessful then I would have to speak to head office and find out why and try to clear the account. The department was very effective and got nearly all claims paid first time.
TWR Race Engine Division Design Engineer June 2002-Novmber 2002
I would report to the Chief Designer, carrying out all aspects of design and design office duties. Using Catia V4. To produce 3D models of engine components such as Valve train, engine block modifications. I would also design blanking plates and other components required for the project. I would work unsupervised most of the time managing my own time and ensuring the designs where carried out within very tight deadlines. I also supported more than one engine project at a time. Another area of the role was to produce build manuals for the technicians to enable them to build the engines. These documents would have torque figures and any special information required to build the final engine. I would also investigate failures when an engine was brought back to the factory. This was carried out as a small team of engineers,
Swindon Racing Engines Draughtsman / Junior Designer & Designer June 1998 - April 2002
I worked my way up the ladder from a draughtsman to designer. The role involved using standard engines and converting them to full spec race engines. Most of the engines where designed for Opel Motor sport. When I started with the company we were only producing 2D drawings, as the time went on we had to start producing 3D models of engine components. This was a new challenge which I had to undertake as more of the customers required 3D models. Many of the components which I designed I would follow through from design to Manufacture & test. I would work closely with the engine builders and machinists to ensure that the designs I was producing were achievable.
