The use of best Ergonomic Principles to design small bench-mounted fixtures and bench layouts.

Method Study / Work Flow techniques in the application of best methods and design of shop layouts and complete factory layouts, including the project management of the installations to ensure smooth and timely completion of the projects with minimum disruption to Production.

MTM-1, MTM-2, MOST, and conventional Time Study to develop synthetic data used for man assignments, line balancing, labour standards and budgets.

For a one-off cost of £940.00, material cost savings of £4,070.98 per week, and an extra 26,427 meals per week would be achieved.

Reporting to Chris Harrison, Operations Manager, as part of a two-man team tasked with carrying out a programme of Work Measurement to produce a comprehensive synthetic time database for all operations in the factory.

We also planned and installed a complete re-layout of the factory, and I personally produced a set of multi-layered drawings for all areas and Production Units using AutoCad.

I also produced a comprehensive set of Standard Operating Procedures for the majority of the production operations in the factory.

Responsible to Alan Jenkins, the Group Operations Director, for planning and implementing a programme of work measurement in selected production areas, namely: chairs, buffet and hutch lines. The outcome of the exercise was a 70% increase in productivity, and a doubling overnight of the overhead recovery rate - at no extra cost to the Company!

Changes to the packaging of finished products were also made, both in design and methods, which for an outlay of £30,000 would save the Aberdare site alone £196,000 p.a. on materials.

Total savings achieved on this, and the previous contract amounted to £240,000 p.a. for the Aberdare site.
