This is the Largest Oil field in the World and currently one of the largest projects in the World. I was initially employed on this project as civil supervisor in the Offsites area of the Project. I was then promoted to Area Superintendent. Channel Tunnel Rail Link Contract 342
I was employed on this project as a Senior General Foreman. I was put in charge of the A2 road works and the railway alignment works. I was supervising three section foremen. The A2 Improvement works involved some major utility diversions and was though by the client, CTRL, to be of central importance to the success of this particular project. This involved me in constant liaisons with the utilities sub-contractors
Included in the A2 works was a major tunnel needed to carry the high speed Rail link under the A2. I was involved fully in this from initial piling right through to final excavation works.
The A2 is a heavily used 3 lane dual carriageway and the works involved major Traffic Management all of which I was responsible for.
On the railway alignment side of the job, I found myself in charge of the initial large-scale drainage and river retaining works. This involved me in working directly with the site environment team. I found this interesting and their procedures are now very familiar to me.
Safety was a major concern of the clients on this job. I was glad to see that the Norwest Holst Group Plc procedures fitted in well with the clients stringent requirements and feel I have learned some very effective ways of carrying out complex, critically timed, operations safely and economically.
Finally we took a major bridge slide, which as, at the time, the largest attempted in Europe. It presented me with a particularly unique set of challenges from both a construction and safety point of view. I was enormously satisfied with its successful completion.
