WORK HISTORY

METECNO UK (Composite Panels), Inchinnan, Glasgow May 2003 - Oct 2003

I was employed after being selected from over 200 candidates to take on the role of Quality control inspector in a World leading company. Shortly after I joined the Quality Control Supervisor left and I was left to run the department. My achievements and duties during this short time included;

· Reducing scrap figures from 15% to 4% over a 4 month period by implementing simple defect analysis and lean management techniques.

· Testing and reporting on composite panels for chemical composition, adhesion, chemical formulae, dimensional stability and dimensional accuracy.

· I implemented the ground work for a new Health and Safety Manual and Risk Assessments.

· Ordering and stock controlling of all chemical bulk deliveries, ensuring we had enough stock at all times for forthcoming production runs.

· Assisting the Quality manager with ISO implementation.

· Being part of the Health and Safety committee tasked with reducing work related accidents.

· Controlling the day to day quality of the composite panels with an eye to customer satisfaction.

Johnstone Casting And Engineering, Dalry, Ayrshire 2001 - May 2003

I was asked to return to this company after achieving success during a contract role providing metallurgical support in several long term projects that were severely behind schedule. I became the Lab Manager, servicing all the needs of a busy foundry. These duties included;

· Metallurgical investigations, isolating casting problems and inspection of finished parts. I also dealt with customer complaints and any material selection questions in relation to casting suitability.

· Part of my daily duties was to ensure that all furnace pots were within specification and adjust as required.

· All Customer appraisals and qualifications were carried out by myself. This included documentation and presenting the findings to the relevant personnel, typically Quality Managers and Directors.

· I was trained in the use of Real time X-ray for casting qualification and used this tool for reducing defect levels in castings.

· Implementing a Quality Process Control within the foundry area, improving on casting parameters to reduce scrap and defects. In addition, I worked closely with the Technical Director, Quality Manager and Foundry Manager on a daily basis.

· I also mentored two students in their college courses.

· Assisted in implementing Risk Assessments and Health and Safety, specifically with regard to an Integrated Management System

Johnstone Casting And Engineering, Dalry, Ayrshire Cont/ 2001 - May 2003

Achievements;

· Successfully completed a process of product qualification which, upon my arrival at the company, was behind schedule. Failure to complete this process for these aerospace parts would have resulted in the loss of a multi-million pound contract. This process included metallurgical testing, arranging outside x-ray testing, compiling reports and test results and presenting this to the senior engineer at British Aerospace. This process required a high attention to detail and to ensure that the 20 page qualification documents were free from errors and erroneous information.

· Re-qualified high integrity casting parts in a tight time frame, after it became apparent that a process deviation had occurred. Again this saved the loss of a highly valued aerospace contract.

· Working with a small team we successfully implemented design changes on a die which used to run at 50- 60 % scrap rates, reducing this to a level of approximately 3 per shift, thus saving the company in the region of £1500 per shift on one die alone

· Implemented Quality control measures and documentation on various processes to improve die yields and the quality of castings.

Bell College/Motorola, HNC MECHATRONICS 2000 - 2001

Selected as one of few people from over 1000 candidates to undertake and intensive course in Mechatronics, with a view to retrain for a position within one of the leading Semiconductor companies. This entailed completing college work and fulfilling a placement with the sponsoring company, in my case Motorola. This was a varied course covering Mechatronics, Applied Computer Engineering, P.L.C. Programming, Electronics, Safety and many other subjects in which I graduated with Merits in the majority of the subjects. Upon completion of the course, my placement allowed me to gain experience of working in a Class 1 clean room environment, working on APM and TSK machines. During this time I worked on retro-fitting manipulator heads from TSK machines to newer APM machines. I was also responsible for designing a new remote temperature sensor to help remove the problems of relay burn-out due to chattering. This was designed and fitted ahead of schedule.

James Reid Metals, Parkhead, Glasgow 1998 - 2000

I was employed as the Metallurgist/Health and Safety Officer, producing copper based alloys. I had the sole responsibility for all lab matters, including the production of ingots while working within tight specifications. I also conducted metallographic examinations on castings and investigated customer casting problems. In addition, I controlled quality matters and subsequent ingot dispatches. I deputised for the Works Manager in his absence and assisted him in the daily running of the factory. This included sampling incoming scrap and managing a workforce to ensure scrap availability. I also implemented a selection of new procedures from Risk Assessments to Customer specifications surveys, during my time at the company.

Aldec Scotland Ltd. Blantyrefarm Rd, Uddingston 1992 - 1998

Initially I was employed at Aldec with no set job description, but I quickly established a role within the company as assistant to the Technical Director. My main duties included operating the lab in the production of aluminium alloys. This encompassed incoming scrap and testing. I managed the ingot shed and ensured compliance with customer's specification. I also worked closely with the Technical Director in obtaining and keeping the company's IPC license. My other duties included ensuring compliance with SEPA with regard to effluent discharge. I volunteered to attend a NEBOSH Health and Safety course, and upon completion, I managed all health and safety matters with in the company, from re-drafting safety manuals, CoSHH manual, and Risk and Noise Assessments. I conducted all accident investigations and liaised with H.S.E officials directly. I was also in charge of approximately 9 men in a shift system, and had sole responsibility during this time.

Clydesdale Steel Works, Bellshill, Glasgow 1988 to 1992

After completing a rigorous selection procedure, was employed as an Apprentice Metallurgist, this included spending several months in various departments. It was here that I gained experience in Metallurgy, Quality Control, Environmental matters and Health and Safety. The apprenticeship allowed me to combine my training and further my education, which I took full advantage of by completing an HND in Metallurgy.
