I have a BA (Hons) in Social Anthropology and an MSc from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in Sexual and Reproductive Health Research. Here I gained a solid training in qualitative and quantitative research methods, epidemiology and reproductive health, including STI/HIV/AIDS and family planning.
I am highly experienced in qualitative data collection techniques aimed at drawing conclusions to develop effective policy actions by governments, international organisations and NGOs. Research experience was gained from the World Health Organisation, University of KwaZulu-Natal, The Africa Centre for Health and Population Studies and London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
I am a published author of educational and fictional material for adults and children with additional experience lecturing and training in HIV/AIDS, medical anthropology and research method techniques.

South Africa and England• Consultant writer, editor and researcher for the Culture & Arts Programme of the Centre for HIV/AIDS Networking (HIVAN) tasked to develop a community based toolkit for child caregivers to build mental health of children infected and affected by HIV and AIDS (March-May 2007).
• Reproductive Health consultant for The African Pulse an HIV/AIDS educational charity working to improve HIV/AIDS education and life skills in schools, youth clubs and community centres through multi-media educational packages. Responsibilities included developing strategic partnerships and identifying routes of distribution with government, UN agencies, CBOs and NGOs and corporate bodies and developing and delivering training workshops (June 2007-March 2008).
• Qualitative researcher working with the Maasai of Ngorongoro District, Tanzania. Research was conducted for the charity Empuaan, an innovative dialogical HIV/ AIDS prevention programme that aims to reduce the risk of STI/HIV/AIDS through awareness raising and critical analysis and debate at the community creating effective and sustainable local networks of information, care and support.
• Researcher on the uninhabited coral atoll of Aldabra, Seychelles. Work included conducting coral and fish transects, turtle monitoring and tagging and shark research (August-Dec 2006).
• SCUBA diving instructor on M/Y Northern Star in Bahamas, Caribbean and Mediterranean (Jan-August 2006)

- Educational text for young children on self-awareness and self-worth entitled “The Tortoise that Wished Too Much” Shooter and Shuter. Scheduled for publication April 2008.
- Author of children’s educational book on HIV/AIDS “Marcham, C L (2007) ‘But… I don’t want to.’ Pietermaritzburg; Shuter and Shooter”. Book used as part of South African school curriculum. Distribution in rest of sub-Saharan Africa scheduled mid 2008.
