CV (Curriculum Vitae) / Résumé

I have specialised in the development of MS Access/VBA database applications for the last 13 years, working with all versions of the product, and it’s developer toolkits, since it was first released. I am currently looking for Access development work, to be undertaken either on site, or at my own premises. I have developed databases for a number of London based clients, visiting their offices when necessary to install, upgrade and enhance applications. In many cases I can support and perform minor upgrades to my applications remotely.

In an interview situation I am able to demonstrate examples of databases I have developed, and often one which closely matches the client's requirement. I have tried and tested code module procedures which I can port between applications, allowing me to hit the ground running in any new MS Access development role.

Please note* I have had multiple assignments with many clients. The date ranges recorded reflect the full term of my association with the client, rather than the individual assignments. This explains why the dates overlap.

Employment History

(Mar 2006 to Jun 2008)

MS Access Developer

Warwick/Solihull

The development and support of three MS Access 2003 databases. The Gas Grantor Database maintains a record of Land Owners and Occupiers who grant permission for National Grid’s Gas and/or Electricity Transmission pipelines to transgress their property. The Enquiry Management Database logs enquiries made with regard to the proximity of Gas and Electricity transmission assets to any proposed building work. The Hospitality Database generates invitations to County Shows, it records responses, and allocates event day tickets and lunch sittings. All databases perform letter generation, and maintain a record of correspondence.

(Jan 2004 to Jun 2008)

MS Access Developer

London/Solihull

The development and subsequent support of several LAN based Databases using MS Access version 2000. This included an Immigration database to monitor the legal costs of asylum seekers, a Dormant Cases database to clear a back log of cases, an Accreditation database to record the qualification status of Immigration Case workers, and other office administration databases.

Two of the databases maintained an interface with the LSC’s SQL Server database, and other databases interfaced with MS Excel and with MS Word to provide automated initial and follow up letter generation. Most of the development was undertaken at my home with me typically visiting the LSC’s London offices, two or three times a month to implement phases of development.

(Jun 2006 to May 2008)

MS Access Developer

(Dec 2002 to Jul 2005)

MS Access Developer

NATIONAL CLINICAL ASSESSMENT AUTHORITY, London/Solihull

I developed a comprehensive MS Access XP application to track the staged process of a clinical assessment. Interface with existing NHS structure database. Heavy use of Word Automation to generate documents associated with many tasks throughout the assessment procedure. This involved the creation of a bookmark vba project within Word, allowing users to easily build document templates incorporating a selection of data from the database. All File & Folder management is controlled from the database application.

(Jul 2002 to Dec 2003)

MS Access Developer

BRITANNIC ASSURANCE, Birmingham

Development of eight new MS Access Database applications, as well as enhancement and support of several existing MS Access systems. Development included a File Tracking application which incorporated a barcode scanning feature. This application was deployed on several Laptop computers, with data synchronised to both the File server and SQL Server. Development also included a Project Office Time Recording System. I also implemented an Application Starter Menu system using Visual Basic 6. This allowed users to configure their own Application suite whilst the IT Support team retaining central administrative control over the applications made available.

I developed and subsequently supported a Promotional Effectiveness, Planning and Analysis Tool running on Head Office file server and individual Account Managers Laptop computers. The system was developed using MS Access 2000 and it’s Developer Toolkit (Runtime distribution).

The system allows Account Managers to enter details of individual store promotions. This was combined with volume uplift marketing information, from a third party. A full analysis of sales volume and profit, for both the store and for Walkers is calculated, displayed over several screens and reported. The system incorporates bespoke replication, to maintain synchronisation of data between Head Office and Account Manager’s Laptops .

I developed a Time Recording System for the NT&T Business Unit. The system incorporated a synchronisation process instigated by the remote users over a dial up or wide area connection. 10 flexible parameterised reports and Excel exports were provided, and full administrative facilities for users with varying levels of authority.
