(1997 to 2002)

eMedia Manager / Systems Manager / Project Manager

Glaxo SmithKline, Hertfordshire

Systems Manager
- Identified an opportunity within the UK production logistics business to change and integrate a major process and IT system in 2 principal departments across 4 UK sites. The resultant system (‘Cleo’) also shadowed a new corporate-wide SAP system that was being developed concurrently. This involved re-defining business requirements, developing a new business process, gaining budget approval and seeking the resources to develop the new system. The result was a shared intranet-based system that brought with it common ways of working across multiple sites and departments.

- Recruited and managed a new team that improved ways of working and systems for specialist desktop and server systems on multiple UK sites. New processes and systems were developed to achieve and maintain compliance with internal auditors and external regulators. It was important to ensure that a process was considered as a whole and that any changes were made so that they were as well-integrated and succinct as possible. I kept processes and documentation very straightforward and succinct and so exceeded the required quality standards.

- Identified opportunities, negotiated with and established supplier partnerships to reduce costs and improve standards. It also nvolved defining new service level agreements, charging structures and, in the case of software firms, licensing agreements.

- Delivered and supported a cross-site e-business process for document approval. My team installed, trained and supported customer users in c50 countries.

e-Media Manager, Research and Development.
- Set up new internal relationships and IT support SLA for the Corporate Communications department – thereby ensuring the smooth running of the communications ‘hub’ for c30,000 users globally.

Project Manager, Global Logistics.
- Managed production of a launch exhibition for Global Logistics at GSK HQ.

(1990 to 1997)

Designer and Manager

Inveresk Research, East Lothian

- Co-produced and designed a major e-business process and service for the parent group - Société Générale de Surveillance (SGS). The project introduced a novel business process to facilitate cross-selling between subsidiary businesses across the group. This encompassed offices in over 130 countries and pioneered the use of the global intranet for a group-wide application.

- Improved the company’s ways of working with marketing agencies by bringing the preparation of marketing media in-house. For example, I introduced a professional approach to negotiating with, selecting, briefing and working with suppliers. The results were an improvement in quality, reduction in fees and a return on capital investment in 3 months.
