Position involved providing technical expertise to local employees as well as customer engineers. Also encapsulates project management duties such as helping to set up stores, ordering parts and labour allocation. Furthermore involves high-level customer interaction. Involved in daily conference calls on both a technical and project management basis to V.P. level on both Applied Materials and customer sides. Customers included Intel, TSMC, UMC, Motorola etc.

Work Experience.

October 1999 to February 2004 - Senior Equipment Engineer/Account Manager - Applied Materials Ion Implant Division. Based at AMC, Shanghai, China.

•Senior engineer/system specialist on Applied Materials first ion implant systems shipped and commissioned to China for the use in semiconductor microprocessor fabrication. Ion implanters are by far the most complex machines involved in the process of making a computer chip, requiring a huge variety of engineering skills. This was an extremely important role as China was/is the main focus for the company.

Position involved providing technical expertise to local employees as well as customer engineers. Also encapsulates project management duties such as helping to set up stores, ordering parts and labour allocation. Furthermore involves high-level customer interaction. Senior shift leader in charge of 10 engineers for the above project.

Fault find to component level, commission and test the following systems:- electronic control systems - robotics - high vacuum systems - pneumatic systems - high voltage to 100MV - computer control systems - digital signal control systems - P.L.C control - cryogenics - RF systems - mechanical systems.

Responsible for the setting up of preventative maintenance schedules and troubleshooting guides for the Quantum and SWIFT range of Applied Materials ion implanters. All PM schedules and guides implemented using TQM methodology, lean manufacturing, ISO 90001 standards as well as the relevant I.E.E regulations and British Standards.

Set-up, test and troubleshoot semi-conductor manufacturing equipment in the Applied Materials Ion Implant product range including:- XR9500, XR80, XRLeap, Quantum, Quantum 2 & SWIFT ion implanters

Travel to wafer fabrication facilities throughout Europe, the Far East and the United States to set up ion implanters on customer sites, from initial power up to customer acceptance of the machine and provide on-site support for Applied materials customers in a production environment.

Give technical support, training and assistance to Applied Materials customers throughout the world.

Ensure that the performance of the system is to the customer's specification with regards to hardware and process.

Perform mechanical set-ups to stringent tolerances

Work as a team member and individually to meet very strict deadlines in a high volume-manufacturing environment.

Ensure good communication between engineering and manufacturing to highlight the latest engineering changes and to feedback information from manufacturing and site. Done to ISO 9001 standards utilizing latest software databases including E-track and FRACAS error reporting systems.

Utilize the following test equipment in the course of doing my job: - mass spectrometers, resistivity monitors, oscilloscopes, frequency meters, mulitmeters, meggers etc.

Excellent theoretical background in the semiconductor manufacturing process and the equipment involved, as well as excellent all round commissioning skills.

Highly computer literate.

June 1998 to October 1999 - Commissioning Engineer - G.E.C. Alsthom

Initiated & set up commissioning procedures for automated cargo storage and retrieval system for B.A World Cargo projects.

Programmed, commissioned & de-bugged Siemens S5 P.L.C. instrumentation & control systems for the above project including conveyors, hoists, motors & robots.

Programmed, commissioned & de-bugged Allen Bradley P.L.C. instrumentation & control systems for the above project including conveyors, hoists, motors & robots.

Monitored test results with laptop computer by forcing outputs on P.L.C.

Handed over hoist and conveyor systems once commissioning was complete.

Produced 'as-fitted' drawings.

Worked in accordance with current British Standards, 16TH edition I.E.E. regs, the Electricity at Work Act, permits to work, risk assessments and C.O.S.H.H. regs.

August 1990 to June 1996 - Apprentice Electrical Engineer/Electrical Engineer - Ministry of Defence

Commissioned control and instrumentation systems for numerous H.V. & L.V. systems including power generation equipment, air conditioning systems, motor control circuits (3-phase and single phase), conveyors, hoists & alarms.
