My most recent career has been with Pechiney Aviatube Ltd in Workington. The plant produces safety-critical extruded aluminium products and throughout my employment I have worked in various roles, manufacturing both structural aircraft wing components and industrial bar products. 1997 - Present Team Leader (Extrusion Department)
In this role, my key responsibilities include hands-on management of the production throughput of the 2750 (tonne) press and the Tania press (5,000 tonne), heat treatment furnaces and final saw operations. The shift is monitored on various key performance indicators, and I am responsible for shift safety, production throughput and product quality. To achieve the shift KPI's, I am responsible for labour resource management, shift production planning for next 24 hours, discipline on shift, training shift personnel on extrusion techniques and maintaining the shift skills matrix. In addition, I have to work out utilisation of equipment, verify all log sheets that are completed and report and manage any employee downtime.
1995 - 1997 Team Leader (Foundry Department)
Key Achievement: From being appointed Team Leader on the shift, overall scrap was reduced and productivity increased.
Again this was a hands-on Team Leader role on continuous shift operation. I was responsible for managing operation of the casting process, the furnace, the induction furnace operation, homogenisation process and aspects of metallurgical analysis in the Quantometer office. Similar to my current role, I had the additional responsibility of man-management and supervision, with a requirement to training new employees on all aspects of the foundry process.
