Vodec Ltd.Engineering Manager

Nottingham May 2006 to Present

Employed as Engineering Manager for the Oil and Gas Division of a Telecommunications Systems Integrator and Cabling Services Provider. Duties include design work to customer requirements, location of necessary equipment from local and international suppliers and composition and writing of proposals and tenders. Supervision and direction of all site personnel. Recruitment and management of site personnel. Management of the training function. Assistance with ISO9001 Quality Assurance program.

Rapid Solutions Ltd.IT & Telecom Manager

Baku, Azerbaijan Feb. 1999 to April 2006

Employed as manager for the IT & Telecommunications department of a UK registered company located in Azerbaijan and specialising in turnkey solutions for systems integration in all sectors but primarily in the Petrochemical markets for both the onshore and offshore industries.

I was responsible for the IT and Communications engineers engaged in the design, supply, installation and ongoing maintenance of both complete solutions and equipment for both the onshore and offshore market in Azerbaijan, Georgia and surrounding areas.

I was directly responsible for the daily activities, budget, work scheduling etc. of the department along with training of the local employees as required. Additionally I carried out design work to customer requests coupled with proposal and tender composition and procurement of the required equipment and systems. This included locating and negotiating with the preferred suppliers of the equipment required whether local companies or more often those located in the UK, Europe, USA and Far East.

Along with managerial responsibilities I was also tasked with design, project management and execution of projects ranging from simple systems through to complete telecommunications turnkey packages for total solutions as required by the client. These ranged from full telecommunications and networking systems onboard fixed installations, drilling rigs and marine vessels including pipe lay barges, trenching barges, survey vessels and support vessels. Onshore projects ranged from oil and gas pipelines and refinery installations through to IPLC and office networks. Other projects included VSAT system design and implementation as well as Line of Sight systems, intercoms, PA systems and PABX. To enable the successful execution of these projects I am familiar with Microsoft Project, AutoCAD and Visio programs amongst others.

I was responsible for the set up of a Help Desk for the company as a whole that allows the client to report problems by telephone, email and through the internet. I have been successful in gaining distributorships for the Company from firms such as Motorola, Marconi Marine, Comtech, Codan and SeaTel. Additionally I have been instrumental in the granting of certification from the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping for design, installation and ongoing maintenance of telecommunications equipment including GMDSS systems in a marine and offshore environment and from the American Bureau of Shipping and DNV for GMDSS shore based maintenance and carrying out the annual radio survey. RSL has also obtained ISO9001 certification during the time I have been with them and I am a certified internal auditor.

Projects I have been involved in from generating the proposal through to projecting and handover include VSAT, Microwave and VHF networks, full offshore communication packages and networks in addition to IPLC.

Spector Lumenex Ltd.Senior Site Engineer

Mapperley, Nottingham April 1990 to Jan 1999.

Responsible for the installation, commissioning, maintenance and repair, worldwide, of all the company products. This included Public Address and General Alarm systems, Public Address and Voice alarm systems, Intercom systems, Telephone and Emergency Telephone systems, Beacons, Addressable loudspeaker systems and Entertainment systems for hazardous and non-hazardous use in both onshore and offshore areas. Offshore systems to PFEER, UKOOA and NORSOK specifications.

Other responsibilities included both onsite and workshop redesign and modification of existing systems to meet customer requirements as well as testing of complete systems after manufacture.

I have also managed several projects including Chevron Alba North, Marathon East Brae and BP Miller platforms as well as little Britain, BP Stockley Park, BP Uxbridge and BP City Road office complexes and Sizewell A Nuclear Power Station among others.

Spector Lumenex gained BS/EN/ISO/9001 accreditation during the time that I was with them so I have first hand experience of the processes and problems that accompany this certification. They also hold BASEEFA licenses to manufacture explosion proof equipment from beacons to the worlds' only completely explosion proof PAGA system.

During the time spent with Spector Lumenex I became familiar with the installation, commissioning, operation and maintenance of a wide range of telecommunication equipment used on offshore and onshore installations.

Telepanel Inc.Manufacturing Manager

Markham, Ont., Canada 1987 to Jan. 1990

Employed as a Manufacturing Manager to produce a LCD price tagging system that interfaced to scanning checkouts to display up to date information on prices etc. The information displayed was changed automatically as the checkout database was updated. This was achieved by a computer program and LF radio communication between a base transmitter and a receiver built into a custom hybrid IC in the price tag.

My duties and responsibilities included the day-to-day operation of the manufacturing line, packaging, shipping, scheduling of production, employee training, hiring and discipline as well as daily supervision.

Other responsibilities included budgeting of the operation, purchasing, import and export of components and finished goods. Responsibilities included overseeing a contract firm in Taiwan that manufactured the high volume LCD price tag in addition to sub contracting other parts of the operation and set up and operation of the IC bonding operation.

I left Telepanel to return to the UK.

Philips Electronics Ltd.Production Supervisor

Toronto, Canada 1981 to 1987

I joined Philips as an engineer working in the Telecommunications manufacturing department that was engaged in the production of a commercial aircraft low visibility landing aid. I also assisted in development of the "Video Wall".

In 1982 I joined the computer terminal manufacturing dept. as a trouble-shooter to repair faulty units after manufacture. Product base included terminals manufactured for companies such as IBM, Sun, DEC, Xerox and Mitel among others. I was promoted to Production Supervisor in 1983.

As Supervisor my duties and responsibilities included the daily running of the plant from component preparation, high volume PCB assembly, wave soldering, sub assembly, mechanical assembly, heat run testing, final testing and packaging of the finished units along with liaison between manufacturing and the Quality Assurance department.

I was responsible for approx. 80 employees, both male and female, in the fields of training, scheduling and discipline. In addition I was also heavily involved in the implementation of a MRP system and Just In Time manufacturing along with the development of a cost saving team.

I left Philips for promotion to join Telepanel as a manufacturing Manager.

Radio Rentals Ltd.Service Engineer

Nottingham 1967 to 1981

I joined straight from school as an indentured apprentice and served a five-year apprenticeship graduating as a City & Guilds Radio & TV Engineer. I was responsible for the repair, maintenance and refurbishment of the company's products both on site and in the central depot. Product base included TVs, Video recorders and Radios.

I left to move to Canada in 1981.
