Recruited to stablise accounting function in a new business unit. Reported to MD of operator of (ultimately) 26 ocean going, commercial vessels. Installed accounting systems. Managed employees responsible for all transaction processing, management and statutory reporting (incl IFRS), risk management, tax compliance and chasing down vessel operating variances. Liaised with technical departments/ agents, auditors, banks, legal/ tax advisors.
Assisted MD to manage exit from the sector.

Led a team responsible to the Board for: finance, accounting, support services, company secretarial, and pension scheme. Provided all financial management inputs required by the private equity and venture capital portfolios. (Sectors include shipping, property management, wine broker, data hosting/ business centre).
Involved in 3 start ups from investment appraisal, determining strategy, pitching for finance, capex appraisal to installing financial systems, training, initial reporting, and monitoring progress.
Specified and implemented ICT upgrades to enable flexible working and preserve competitive advantage.
Wrote Business Continuity/ Disaster Recovery plans for each business unit.

Project manager – 1m Ecu to establish an Insurance Training Centre in Ukraine. Specified and co-ordinated the inputs of European Union specialists as part of the European Commission’s effort to re-orientate the command economies of Former Soviet Union countries towards a market economy. Outputs over 4 years - delivery of short training courses, a Russian language text book for the University and a bridgehead for delivery of audit and accountancy services.

Delivered training in auditing, accounting standards and insurance in other FSU countries.
