As project manager for a company developing Wide Area Networks and Virtual Private Networks systems for organisations such as Transport for London, NACRO, Employment Tribunals Service and the National Grid for Learning, and develop virtual team from several disciplines.

As project manager for a company developing training systems for organisations such as Network Rail, British Aerospace and Vickers, my remit was to build and develop a team from several disciplines.

I was the main project manager for a training system (£6M) to be used throughout the rail network. It provided training facilities in a realistic environment for the instruction and development of signalling skills.

As senior project manager for an international telecoms carrier, my remit was to liaise with Board members to develop and maintain the major systems supporting the office functions within the company. Within my role I was also part of the business development group which produced retail solutions for organisations as diverse as Centrica and News International.

I headed a division that was structured to take advantage of outsourcing a significant proportion of the development and systems procurement. As such co-ordination of effort from external suppliers was required to provide satisfactory solutions. At the core of this approach was the use of PRINCE as the project management method.

• Planned, directed and managed the development of a web-enabled architecture which supported the customer management process for 400 users across 18 international sites.
• Managed the development of multiple projects utilising several external suppliers as well as in-house teams in the UK and Switzerland.

As head of the development group I was responsible for the successful production and execution of the strategy for all new systems within the company. This involved managing both permanent and contract to deliver high quality products for our multi-national clients.

• Managed the development of the Orange Just Talk prepaid mobile phone system. (Generating revenues of £2.1 million per year).
• Designed a change management process used to track change requests.

• Integrated all systems to create a single point of contact for customers and to support marketing of complementary products.
• Ensured Year2000 compliancy of the operational business systems.

As part of the senior management team for a software house, I had sole responsibility for the development of the company's product. The system constituted a complete office solution for the print industry.

• Managed the transition process for Year2000 compliancy and absorbing the requirements of the EURO.

In my role as project manager, I was engaged in the production of training systems and satellite data processing suites.

It was during my time at VEGA that I first began to use PRINCE as a project management methodology – this was a requirement of the contracts which we were fulfilling for various government agencies.

A considerable proportion of my time was spent exploiting and re-engineering technologies we had developed into new areas.
