IBM Cobol Senior Technical Specialist (Contract)

§ Provided mainframe technical support for financial applications (GEAC General Ledger and Accounts Payable), Trade Entry and P&L systems and Unix support for Trade Confirmation system.
§ Lead role for GEAC Accounts Payable development and support on IBM MVS CICS DB2 platform, including 24/7 on-call support.
§ Worked closely with General Ledger consultant to ensure integrity of Millennium platform
§ Implemented many minor developments to AP system, including Y2K upgrade
§ Upgraded Accounts Payable software from 5.03 to 5.12
§ Wrote Accounts Payable interface to Concur Expense Management System.
§ Successfully led 9 month project to integrate Accounts Payable payment function with Citibank Worldlink product, providing major savings to the business.
§ General Ledger – wrote many batch and online enhancements for Journal Entry / Validation, Transaction reporting, Journal archiving, Y2K upgrade and Euro conversion.

IBM Cobol Millennium Specialist (Contract)

General Electric Medical Systems, Slough

Transferred to Slough to support Finance and HR applications. Originally these systems had supported several GE businesses (of which Medical Systems was one), but the Finance function was subsequently absorbed into each respective business, leaving just Medical Systems finance data to manage.

§ Revitalised waning support for Millennium Finance application, including introduction of problem logging and change management controls, procedures for the archive / purge of redundant data, major JCL rewrites, job rescheduling, especially for period-ends, and recovery procedures, all heavily documented.
§ Organised and prioritised departmental workload for myself and two others, including programming, testing, implementing and documenting batch and online changes,

In 1993 Finance application support for all European Medical Systems operations was centralised in Paris. This meant that the major UK Finance applications (AP:M, AR:M and GL:M) were to be migrated to MVS, where equivalent Millennium software had already been installed.

§ Worked closely with Paris team, analysing and preparing data for conversion.
§ Wrote proposals for the replacement of other UK-specific applications that were not suitable for migration. This included the migration of the mainframe BACS payment system written in Millennium PDL, to the CheckBacs PC package. Managed this project through to implementation.
§ Migrated VSE Human Resource application to MVS.
§ Always used techniques that conformed to the establishment's standards and conventions.
