Slough CHP. The £20m project, for Slough Heat and Power Limited, is in principal the provision of a power generation facility, fuelled by processed waste paper and plastic (densified fibre fuel), with an output of 12MWe. Responsible for mechanical on-site assembly and associated fabrication and erection of boiler / furnace, vacuum steam condenser and fuel handling system together with ancillary equipment and other items of mechanical plant. Duties included supervision of the mechanical erection team, resolving technical issues by liaison with the project team and equipment suppliers and assisting the CSM in undertaking site duties and the day to day running of the construction site.

Site Construction Engineer

Olefins Plant Furnaces. Initially based at the furnace module fabrication yard in Johore, West Malaysia. After transportation of the fully constructed units (8), in Jan 2000, relocated to the site at Jurong Island, Singapore. Responsible for monitoring and supervising the fabrication and erection of 8 ethylene cracking furnaces and associated control valve stations. Duties included supervision of sub-contractors in various disciplines (mechanical, refractory, insulation, electrical); co-ordination of engineering and construction efforts for design work carried out at site; resolving technical queries by liaison with engineering disciplines; ensuring compliance with specifications and procedures; implementing and progressing change orders; planning, quality control, materials control and document control.

Responsible for safety, construction, quality of work, progress etc. Duties included managing sub-contractors in various disciplines (civil, mechanical and electrical), co-ordination of all site activities, co-ordination between engineering disciplines and construction disciplines, resolving technical queries and maintaining a documentation system.

The last 4 months of this period were spent as Commissioning Engineer responsible for putting to work and overseeing handover testing of a 500kg/hr dedicated clinical waste incinerator.
