WORK EXPERIENCE :

February 1997 to present.ALSTOM POWER - E & CS

Booths Hall, Knutsford.

Position : Head of C & I Engineering.

Managed a team of up to forty C & I engineers comprising of both permanent and contract staff. The department being made up primarily of software configuration engineers with a number of general C & I engineers with associated CAD, clerical and planning support staff.

Responsible for the setting of design standards and philosophy associated with the Control and Instrumentation systems for large capital projects up to £800m (C & I value of £9m), defining the C & I department policy for ALSTOM E & CS, planning and project budgetary issues within the department for live projects, defining technical solutions and philosophy for tendering and direct sales, providing technical support in tender and direct sales presentations to prospective clients both at home and overseas, production of detailed workload schedules, progress and spend reports for corporate reporting.

Represented the company in high level meetings with consortium partners, clients and their nominated representatives both at home and overseas to discuss all project C & I related issues, gaining consensus of opinion on issues of design and methodology.

Has gained experience over the years in the design of a broad spectrum of the power generation industry, ranging from Large Coal fired and Nuclear to Hydro and Gas fired CHP

August 1996 to February 1997 Bechtel Water Technology Thompson House,

Risley, Warrington.

Position : Senior Electrical Project Engineer.

Responsible for the electrical and control system design of the Woodford Borehole scheme and package chlorination systems at a number of other sites. Detailed design of control building layouts and electrical services for both 'green field' and existing building refurbishment, and the specification of electrical and control strategies to be employed in the scheme. Represented Bechtel Water Technology at progress meetings and design reviews (including HAZOP & FMEA) with North West Water.

August 1988 to August 1996 CEGELEC PiC

Trafford Park, Manchester.

Position : C & I Section leader.

Employed in the Control & Instrumentation department as C & I Section leader for the Sual 2 x 609MW thermal power station in the Philippines. Responsible for a team of up to fifteen C & I and DCS engineers, in addition to Clerical and Planning support staff for the :-

· Design, supply and configuration of the station DCS,

· Design and supply of Telecommunications systems including PABX, VHF radios, Radio Paging, CCTV and LAN systems,

· Local Control Panels including Local burner controls and fuel handling,

· Boiler protection system,

· Unit desks and associated Control Room panels etc.

Previous positions within CEGELEC were that of lead C & I engineer for the Pergau Hydro electric power station in Malaysia, Majuba coal fired power station in South Africa and as part of a design team for Sizewell B NPS and the cancelled CEGB 900MW projects at Fawley, West Burton and Kingsnorth. My responsibilities for the aforementioned projects were for the design of station, turbine auxiliary and supervisory control systems associated with large steam turbine and hydro generating power stations. Represented CEGELEC's interest in engineering meetings with the customers and their consultants, both at home and overseas.





January 1988 to August 1988 John Brown Engineering Ltd. Clydebank, Glasgow.

Position : Electrical Control Engineer.

Responsible for the design of control systems for wastewater treatment plants to customer specifications. Preparation of order specifications, circuit diagrams for equipment ranging from 415 VAC Motor Control Centres to control panels, cabling designs, the checking and approval of drawings produced either 'in house' or from sub-contractors as well as providing technical support for site installation and sales departments.

February 1985 to January 1988 National Nuclear Corp. Ltd

Heysham II Power Station, Heysham, Lancashire.

Position : C & I Engineer

Employed by the site Nuclear Consultants to supervise and direct installation and commissioning of C & I systems by sub-contractors. Responsible to ensure that all work was carried out to the agreed specifications and to sign off the appropriate quality control documentation on completion. Represented the NNC in conjunction with Booths Hall design engineers during site co-ordination meetings, which involved discussing, with the contract site managers, senior engineers and designers, work outstanding, effects to programme, relevant problems and funding.

August 1979 to February 1985 Nairn Coated Products Ltd.

Lune Mills, Lancaster.

Position : Apprentice

4-year apprenticeship followed by a further 2 years as an electronics / instrumentation technician in the process industry supplying decorative products to the commercial and construction industries.
