Procter and Gamble - Manchester Plant (2003-Present)

Project Engineer

My current role is to manage capital projects within the Tissue Towel department. Projects range from reliability and safety improvements, to large capital equipment installations, facilitating new product launches.

The role involves managing the full life cycle of projects (Feasibility, Conceptual, Definition/Procurement, Design & Construction, Commissioning/Start-Up and Capitalisation/Project Turnover), in addition to managing several long-term contactors who work within the project group. I am required to liaise with departments such as Manufacturing Operations, Quality Assurance, Health and Safety, Purchasing, Finance as well as external contractors.

Project Highlights

Delivery of £1,000,000 project to support a new product initiative. Scope included converting line ply-bond upgrades and the installation of a new logsaw with associated conveyor system.

Successfully completion of a £500,000+ project for the installation of a packaging loop to support an increase in large count pack volumes.

£100,000 project to install pallet labelling system to comply with EAN.UCC standards.

£150,000 project to build office and workshop facilities in the packing hall.

Managed a project to relocate capital equipment from an Italian P&G manufacturing facility to the Manchester Plant.

Achievements

Responsibility for initiating, and the ongoing management of the module Change Management system

Responsibility for managing the module Capital Budget and Asset Management.

Developing the module standard specification that is sent to prospective vendors when requesting a quotation.

Procter and Gamble - Nenagh Plant, Ireland (2001-2003)

Packing Line Process Engineer

I worked on the start-up, and subsequently as the Process Engineer, for a high speed bottle packing line. Responsibilities included ownership for productivity, reliability and small cost saving projects in addition to managing technical resources. It was my role to ensure reliability losses were identified and were systemically eliminated.

Achievements

Ensured the line ran with a stable Process Reliability (line efficiency) at above the company benchmark of 85% within first 6 months of start-up.

Led team meetings to review results, develop action plans and priority setting to resolve line issues.

Worked as part of the module leadership team to define strategic targets and action plans.

Module ownership for Rapid Changeover results.

Procter and Gamble (2000-01)

Control & Information Systems (C&IS) Engineer

As a member of the Europe, Middle East and Asia Beauty Care C&IS team I was responsible for all C&IS projects across the site. I was a member of plant Engineering department in addition to being a member of the Initiative Management Team (project delivery). This role allowed me to develop particular expertise in vision systems as well as the P&G automated downtime tracking system.

Achievements

Implementation of the P&G automated downtime tracking system for a strategic manufacturing line. This enabled improved prioritisation of reliability improvements.

Writing a SCADA program using Wonderware's Intouch to display real time packing line production and quality data.

Configuration of Ethernet networks for Win NT PC's and Allen Bradley PLC's to allow communication between machines on the packing line.

Increased line automation by writing basic PLC programs using Allen Bradley ladder logic and Schubert VMS programming software.

Improved the transient response of PID loops using P&G 'Control Loop Health' tools reducing batch cycle time by 15%.
