Croston Engineering Ltd - Project/Design Engineer (1994 to present)

Primary responsibilities in current role include:

Establishing project feasibility from initial enquiries to presenting final designs, specifications & tender documentation to the potential customer.

Full responsibility for the project management of contracts under my control from the inception of the project plan, system/component design, assessment of equipment bids to placing of orders.

Management/supervision of site workforce including preparation of Risk Assessments & Method Statements for safe working on site.

Problem solving & teamwork in the installation & commissioning phases to complete contracts on budget & schedule.

Providing engineering solutions to existing customers.

Main areas of experience in current role include:

Man management of sub-contractor teams to complete works to schedule & on budget.

Design of bulk storage & pneumatic distribution systems for dry powder ingredients used within the bakery & confectionary industries.

Silo & hopper detail design including dust explosion prevention/ protection measures.

Load-cell weighing systems/loss in weight metering.

Proficiency in a variety of PLC interfaces to configure & instruct operatives on the use of our installed systems.

System specifications, including compliance with the new ATEX/DSEAR regulations.

Solving installation & commissioning problems.

Delivery of system training to operatives.

Daily dealings with customers to identify & supply spare parts for existing equipment.

9 months work placement within busy precision engineers in Batley, West Yorkshire for HND course. Trained up as apprentice machining components for plastic injection moulding tooling.

Three summer vacations working at Costain Land & Marine

Preparation of tender documents.

Development of computer systems

Checking of engineer's calculations.

Pressure vessel design to British Standards.

Information Technology Tutoring

1994 - completion of City & Guilds 704 Part 1 course in response to the college's demand to form a pool of part-time IT tutors following interview. The resulting tutoring hours proved a useful asset in my personal development.

I subsequently taught RSA Computer Literacy & Information Technology (CLAIT) & IBT2 until 2001. These courses offered the student a basic insight into computers, their use & their applications - many of which were complete IT novices. My communication skills developed during this time & improved my ability to explain complex ideas in simple terms as necessary. This has enabled me to become an effective communicator on all levels.

I.T. Skills

Use of Microsoft Windows based software on a daily basis, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel & Access) & AutoCAD LT 2005 based on the Windows XP platform. Some experience in programming Visual Basic within Excel.

Other Interests

Leisure interests include golf, mountain biking, camping & fell walking although these have taken a back seat to daughters, DIY, motor vehicle restoration & property development in recent years. A functioning knowledge of French.
