· Generate Subsystem Program Specific Specifications (SPSS) for Instrument Clusters
· Working directly with a German OEM in German
· Support Customer meetings in German
· Extract from German specifications the customer specific input, output, functional and configuration requirements
· Requirements captured and traced using Telelogic's DOORS (Dynamic Object Orientated Requirements System) to allow complete traceability from original requirement source to delivered requirement
· Produce a subsystem FMEA for the Instrument Cluster
· Support software design and cluster architecture reviews
Jan 2001 to August 2003Powertrain Control Systems Development Engineer
· Develop and modify existing fuelling features for current and future applications of the Visteon powertrain control system.
· Work directly with embedded coding engineers to build the control requirements into the software using C.
· Acquainted with the Motorola based MPC-555 microcontroller and CAN based architecture for automotive applications.
· Experience of design and system Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA) techniques (to identify potential failure modes, critical characteristics and severity of their effects) and the 8 Discipline approach to problem solving.
· Use Matlab/Simulink to develop and model current and future features.
· Employ vehicle simulators to test all new soft and hardware combinations on the bench. Tests either completed manually or using purpose written scripts.
· Utilise Accurate Technologies Inc. (ATI) vehicle calibration software & hardware to support bench & vehicle level testing.
· Write Software Requirements Specifications and Software Test Procedures for control features and their corresponding output drivers
· Operate, document and review all changes in accordance with the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) Capability Maturity Model (CMM) Level III.
· Working understanding of ClearCase software configuration management tool for developing, tracking and book shelving new versions of software.
June 1999 to Dec 2000Powertrain Control Systems Applications Engineer and Ford Mondeo Launch Engineer
· Visteon representative and single point contact for all powertrain control system issues during the Mondeo launch phase at Ford's Aveley Pilot Plant in Essex and the Ford Mondeo manufacturing facility at Genk in Belgium.
· Responsible for ensuring approx. 1000 prototype vehicles were built with the correct level of control system parts.
· Debugged misbuilt vehicles and investigated control system related problems on durability vehicles.
· Addressed all technical, manufacturing, logistic and process problems in a timely, efficient and diplomatic manner.
· In parallel, continued with the control system improvements in my Applications role and liased with the customer to introduce modified features to improve the vehicle driveablity, performance, electromagnetic compatibity (EMC) and Stage IV emissions compliance.
Oct 1997 - May 1999Powertrain Control Systems Applications Engineer
· Packaging of the Visteon powertrain control system with Ford's new prototype drive-by-wire diesel engine into the new Galaxy including interfacing with VW vehicle level systems e.g. immobiliser & stability/traction control.
· Moved on to a new assignment, Ford's Mondeo replacement programme with the coincidental introduction of Visteon's new powertrain control module using the Motorola MPC-555 microprocessor.
· Addressed all issues from component packaging, component cost reduction investigations and the introduction of the new "pilot injection" fuelling technique to the diesel control system.
· Supported hot & cold climate testing trips.
Ford Motor Company, Dunton Engineering Centre, Basildon
July 1996 to Sept 1997Powertrain Control Systems Applications Engineer
· Introduced running changes and system improvements to the powertrain control system used on low volume Scorpio & Galaxy.
