November 2007 - .NET Developer – TS Technology Services, Solihull
Present

TS Technology Services provides fully integrated service solutions for clients operating in a number of diverse market sectors where high technology assets are employed. Clients include Virgin Media, Huawei and MLL Telecom.

I designed and built an extranet web application (Phoenix) to handle parts ordering and returns which would interface with an existing Sage ERP accounting system. The application implemented an end-to-end process which took the user through parts selection, SLA compliances and delivery and courier options. The ASP.NET, n-tier application was built using object-oriented design on a .NET 2.0 platform. Class code was written in Visual Studio 2005 using C# accessing SQL Server 2005 databases via stored procedures. Windows service applications were created to pull completed transactions from an FTP server onto the ERP application and to synchronize product data between the 2 applications. SQL Reporting Services were utilized to produce management reports and enable Track and Trace functionality. On completion and delivery of the Phoenix application I was engaged to design and build a replacement for an existing fault management system. This was designed and built in consultation with TS Technology engineers to provide a flexible means of recording and managing fault recording, engineer assignment and activity and fault fixing on client sites. The ASP.NET, n-tier application was built on a .NET 3.5 platform using Visual Studio 2008 for the development process. The GUI was developed using the .NET AJAX toolkit, C# and SQL Server 2005. The application was designed to be used on both a PC client and a mobile device utilizing web services and WCF and tailored accordingly.

Mar 2007 - .NET Developer – TAC UK, Ashby-de-la-Zouch
November 2007
TAC is a supplier of integrated building management systems. I worked on their Smart Utility Management (SUM) web application. SUM was used by TAC customers to log and record meter readings and energy consumption for their respective premises. I migrated the application from .NET 1.1 and SQL Server 2000 to .NET 2.0 and SQL Server 2005. Using Visual Studio 2005, C#, ASP.NET, JavaScript and SQL Server 2005, I added multi-lingual functionality to the application and wrote a translation application for use by new international customers using XML to directly access the .NET resource files. Using an object-oriented approach, I designed and wrote parameterized meter interval functionality using SQL Server stored procedures and functions. I implemented new graphing and charting features using Chart Director open source software. New HTML was laid out using CSS. Source was managed using Vault open source. Published websites to the TAC network using UltraVNC.

Jan-Mar 2007 .NET Developer – EDI, Coventry

EDI is an accredited awarding body and leading international education company. I created a number of online editors used by EDI in administering their TMS (Test Management System) and TDF (Test Delivery Framework). The editors provided a template for administrators to enter test parameters. Parameters were formatted into XML delivered over .NET web services to remote Macromedia Flash applications which delivered the tests to users. Coded using OO methodology in C# with VS 2005 IDE using .NET2, the editors were ASP.NET web user controls embedded within dynamic placeholders. The metadata required to produce the editors was retrieved from an Oracle database. Used PL/SQL to create packages and stored procedures for the application. Customer data was held on SQL Server 2005 and I produced stored procedures to access and retrieve this data for the application.

Oct-Dec 2006 .NET Developer – npower, Worcester

npower are one of the UK's largest energy suppliers, serving residential consumers and business customers. Built a web application for npower’s Web Support Team to help maintain customer data from their new online billing view system. Using an object-oriented design from UML input, the application was written in C# on an ASP.NET platform. Used AJAX controls to enhance client-side functionality. Data was accessed from application servers using .NET web services and ORM. Designed and built the underlying database and tables in SQL Server 2005. Development of the application was using .NET2 and Visual Studio 2005.

Jun-Oct 2006 .NET Developer – Direct Valuations, Nottingham

Direct Valuations provide independent property valuation and survey management services to many of the UK's Banks, Building Societies, lending organisations, brokers and intermediaries. I worked on a greenfield development which enabled proactive management of valuation cases through the workflow, providing a platform for integrated MI and performance data. The application was built on an object-oriented design using .NET 2.0, Visual Studio 2005 and SQL Server 2005. I designed and built the Comps and SIMSY databases which underpinned the application. Wrote DTS packages to import Land Registry data into the Comps database and external valuation data into the SIMSY database. Wrote stored procedures in SQL Server 2005 for use across the application. Designed and built business objects to access the data. Built and styled GUIs to manage case and valuation comparables data using C#, CSS, JavaScript, ASP.NET, AJAX and SQL Server 2005.

3i are one of the world’ leading venture capital providers. Worked here via a sub-contractor (Bx Ltd) on a web-based portfolio intranet system. Developed web forms for portfolio companies, shareholders, and finance sources. Made extensive use of .Net datagrid processing. Created reference data maintenance forms. wrote SQL Server stored procedures and produced code to access these using ADO.NET. Extensive use of JavaScript to enhance client-side functionality. All developments utilized object-oriented design in VB.NET, ASP.NET on the Visual Studio 2005 platform using .NET 2.0

Northgate are principle suppliers of software services to local government. Worked on the Front Office system which is used by many local authorities to implement services to their council
taxpayers. Designed and developed search modules to enable searching by individual citizen, property, location or organisation. The search functionality was written in C#, utilizing ASP.NET and accessing SQL Server 2005 database via an XML interface over web services. Programs utilized object oriented methodology building data objects to access all data and present it to the user. Wrote HTML client side JavaScript to enable frame switching between applications. The new code was based on existing classic ASP, VB6 and XSL functionality. Developed using Visual Studio 2005 and .NET 2.0

Shop Direct Group is the home shopping arm of Littlewoods encompassing the Kays catalogue brands. Worked on an integration project to convert Kays’ 13 legacy VB6 ASP websites to ASP.NET and link these to the backend services being run by Littlewoods. Wrote applications using C#, SQL Server and ASP.NET and using 3-tier object oriented methodology. Wrote XML interfaces and XSLT transformations to communicate with Littlewoods J2EE and Oracle backend.

Shared Solutions produce a task-based online learning product called e-charisma which aids companies in these processes.

Re-configured and rewrote an issue management and resolution application that had been built in classic ASP using VB6 and accessing an SQL Server database. Put this onto ASP.NET with C# and SQL Server with some client-side JavaScript validation. Applied fixes to existing e-charisma software written in classic ASP, VB6 and SQL Server.

A small software consultancy set up to provide services for GZS in Frankfurt., Germany (see below). In 2002 joined a small team within UKSD charged with developing a prototype, browser and Windows based version of the existing credit card mainframe system. I was involved in the design and development of this system. Development was entirely in C# and ASP.NET. Online CICS screens were rebuilt in ASP.NET using Visual Studio .NET framework. In excess of 70 online screens were re-developed to the new requirement. All code-behind was created in C# and VB.NET. Latterly began to build web services for the application. Designed and created SQL Server 2000 databases to service the application. Wrote stored procedures and triggers to support the database design. Used CSS Style sheets to tailor web pages.
