Contracted to help mentor a team of junior developers on best practises using Agile, Spring, JAXB and Test Driven Development.

Jan 2009 – Mar 2009
Lead developer on a bulk batch file processing system developed using the Active MQ JMS framework and Spring to distribute processing of customer information for various banks into the Monitise mobile banking platform.

Oct 2008 – Dec 2009
Lead developer in a team of 3 working on various projects related to improving development process and system builds. I was responsible for introducing and training the development team on a new build tool based on Java and Ant, to help configuration of the application server. This tool improved system build times for all developers.

Aug 2007 – Oct 2008
Lead developer in a small team of 4 integrating the Metavante Bill Pay System XML API to allow mobile customers to pay bills via their phone. Developed using the Spring framework and JAXB which was new to the team so helped in mentoring team members in the frameworks. After the successful launch of the system in the US I worked on a second project to integrate Metavantes faster payments functionality into the solution.

April 2007 – Aug 2007
Integrated WDS Globals Over The Airways (OTA) XML API software into Monitise to allow automatic configuration of mobile phone settings. Developed a XML schema of WDS system and then used JAXB and Apache HttpCLient to call the system. This functionality was then exposed to other systems using the Axis web services framework.

Feb 2007 – April 2007
Working with the Product Team developed a proof of concept to provide SMS banking functionality to mobile phones using a combination of Struts and EJB technology.

(Jan 2004 to Dec 2006)

J2EE Developer

London

Apr 2005 – Dec 2006
Joined Betfair’s new Gaming product team as development lead to create a revolutionary new product suite of Exchange based games. I mainly developed the web services aspects of the product, which included money transfer, user authentication, currency feeds and a number of batch processing jobs. The service used the GLUE web services framework to call EJB beans and AXIS as a client. I also built the caching functionality of the system using the Tangosol Caching Framework which helped to improve resilience and performance. In addition I helped develop a REST interfaces to expose web site functionality to third part developers.

Mar 2005 – Apr 2005
I worked with the Betfair infrastructure team to investigate porting of Betfair JBoss J2EE application to various other J2EE application servers. Work involved identifying and replacing where Betfair application broke various J2EE compliances and used JBoss specific features. Project also involved liaising with various application server providers to work out what benefits could be gained by using their products.

Jan 2005 – Mar 2005
Development lead and architect for implementation of new Chinese payment gateway and website. This involved the development of a micro site and web service using the Java GLUE framework to integrate into the One Pay payment system.

May 2004 – Decr 2004
I worked on various software project releases helping to identify performance bottlenecks and functionality enhancements to the Betfair J2EE application. This included creating an internal web service in Java using the Axis and GLUE frameworks to support a call centre application, adding Tangosol Caches to improve performance of heavily requested information and development of a new accounts management system.

Jan 2004 – Apr 2004
Member of a small team that designed and developed Betfair’s first external web service. The product integrated Cryptologic’s WagerLogic Poker software into Betfair‘s J2EE application. It was developed using the GLUE web services framework deployed within JBoss 3.2.3. The service exposed existing Betfair J2EE functionality but also required the extension and the development of new services to manage users and security.
