Manage and deliver an IT security project to prevent exposure to the HBOS estate from viruses and security breaches. The project involved the assessment and identification of devices at risk and project manage the delivery of the latest anti-virus pattern files and Microsoft security patches to over 63,000 desktops/laptops and servers. In addition, the project delivery also involved providing a framework to automate Microsoft updates to all devices i.e. servers, desktops/laptops including RAS laptops when required. In addition to my specific project responsibilities, provided team management support and project consultancy for the Head of Distributed Client Services on other programmes of work

Manage and deliver a programme of work to rationalise Corporate Division's application base, introduce end-user access profiling, migration of the desktop/laptop estate to XP from NT, upgrade NT servers to W2K3 environment and deliver Active Directory Services within the Division. Typical tasks involved – ToR, project plan, managing stakeholders issues/ concerns/business dependencies and representing those concerns/issues at programme level. Managing stakeholder workshops to reduce the application base by identifying multiple versions of software and functionally similar software applications. This resulted in a reduction from 700 applications to 350.

Lead Project Manager

Led and implemented an 18mth programme of work to transition and transform the existing multi layer outsourced managed service to a single supplier framework.

Key objectives of this programme where to deliver a streamlined, integrated and cost effective service solution with no business impact during transition or transformation, perform an RFI assessment to select a single supplier and deliver an automated customer workflow solution via a centralised IT portal to provide a ‘self-service’ IT service managed service operation to the UK Group.

Managed Services Manager

Led and manage Standard Life Group outsourced moves and changes operation to the agreed service levels working with multiple suppliers.

Key management responsibilities were successful day to day delivery of Standard Life’s IT Managed Service managing multiple suppliers e.g. BT, Computacenter, NCR. The Managed Service remit encompassed software and hardware installations, telephony and to manage and lead large programmes of work to support the business e.g. strategic moves, large scale migration of both hardware and software implementation and decommissioning.

Supplier management also involved regular monthly commercial invoicing and quarterly/annual contractual commercial reviews which included negotiating with suppliers and engaging external benchmarking consultants. Defining and provision of management information e.g. SLA’s, KPI’s and OLA’s. Key achievements - > 95% service level on all services from an SLA of 65% within 6 months of taking up this position and successful integration of the Group’s new Healthcare subsidiary acquisition into the Group’s outsourced service operation in 3 months within budget.

Apr 1988 – May 2000 Desktop & Server Support Manager

Led and managed the resources, projects and services to maximise the availability and performance of production systems and implement technical and process improvements to the ITIL service model across Standard Life Group’s distributed IT operations.

Key management outputs met - ensuring business objectives were successfully met by delivering a robust, reliable, scalable and fully supportable desktop platform, owning and managing the Microsoft and Novell supplier relationships for the Group across core technology platforms, effective training, contribution and development management

Examples of achievements

• Delivery of a single standardised NT build to replace non-standard OS2 build across the Group
• Introduction of new remote system management tools thus removing the need for expensive and time-consuming on-site visits
• Desktop/laptop incidents reduced from 300 per week to 200 per month in less than a year
• Exceeded 95% (98.5%) SLA across the Group’s Server platform from 60% availability in less than a year
• Successfully delivered Standard Life’s Y2K implementation for the desktop/Intel server and data network environments
