With some 20 years experience in publicity, communications and editorial roles, largely in the creative industries, I have developed excellent verbal and written communications skills. My main passion is the written word and I have concentrated mainly on this in the latter period of my career. Following around ten years experience in editorial roles within the BBC, including as Manager of their Editorial Services team for eight years, I am now working on a freelance basis and enjoying the ability to work flexible hours and have flexibility in location.

My skills in writing, editing and proofing were honed at the BBC where I had access to the eclectic mix of contributors - from David Tennant to Sir David Attenborough - to interview for syndicated publicity features, and also wrote, edited and proofed promotional copy, including for the Programme Information bulletins featuring TV and radio highlights and for press releases, press packs, web copy etc. I also helped to improve writing skills generally withing the Marketing & Comms department by holding courses and sessions covering grammar and punctuation skills, business writing etc.

From generating feature articles for publicity purposes to polishing other people's copy, I have wide experience of writing to suit various markets, from commercial to corporate. I can edit and proof copy quickly and accurately. Current work includes regular internal comms newsletters which involve researching stories, interviewing contributors, and writing stories to various lengths. I have also produced press packs for big events including the 2008 Beijing Olympics and Euro 2008 for BBC Sport, whic involved interviewing contributors, writing personality and technical articles, compiling broadcasting details, picture research, and desktop publishing the whole packs in QuarkXpress.
