CV (Curriculum Vitae) / Résumé

PROFILE:

A highly experienced Security Cleared Senior SQL Data Analyst with over 20 years commercial experience designing, developing and implementing Management Information and Reporting Solutions for major Blue Chip and Public Sector clients using Visual Studio, Visual Basic, SQL Server 2000/2005 T-SQL, SSRS, SSIS, DTS, VBA and advanced Excel and Access. Now seeks next challenging and rewarding position in a customer focused organisation.

EXPERTISE:

• Excel, including Macros & VBA (Versions 97, 2000, 2003 & 2007)
• Access, including Macros & VBA (Versions 97, 2000, 2003 & 2007)
• SQL Server 2000/2005, including T-SQL, Stored Procedures, SSRS, DTS/SSIS
• Oracle 10g Discoverer, Business Objects 6.5
• Visual Basic 5/6
• Visual Studio .Net 2003/2005
• Visio 2003/2007
• Advanced Data Manipulation and Modelling Techniques
• Team player, reliable, focused, conscientious and able to perform well under pressure

I.T QUALIFICATIONS:

MCSD/MCP (Microsoft Certified Professional):
• VB6 Desktop Applications - Exam 70-176
• VB6 Distributed Applications - Exam 70-175

MCITP/MCTS (Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist):
• SQL Server 2005 Business Intelligence Implementation & Maintenance - Exam 70-445

KEY ACHIEVEMENTS:

• Using VB6, SQL Server 2000/2005 and Excel VBA automation, I led the design, development and implementation of a fully automated vehicle warranty claims analysis and reporting application. The system was used extensively to quickly identify and analyse potential market related quality issues and monitor and forecast Honda’s multi-million pound warranty budget against various internal and external business KPI targets. The application led to early detection of numerous market quality issues, which helped to reduce the impact on both warranty costs and customer satisfaction.

• Using Visual Studio 2005, I designed, developed and implemented a SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services (SSRS) solution that allowed senior engineers within the Market Quality Department to access a dashboard that summarised daily warranty claim information for their specific areas of responsibility. The solution included both dynamic reporting and graphical representations of the warranty claim data and was used extensively by engineers to aid early detection of potential vehicle defects within the market.

• I designed and developed a multi user Microsoft Access VBA tool that helped to capture the training equipment demands from British Army Formations and automatically produce platform demand plan and platform supply plan reports using Excel VBA. The reports were used by Army training fleet managers and suppliers, to proactively plan and schedule the supply of equipment. The solution dramatically reduced the manpower effort involved from approximately one month down to a couple of days and eradicated previous data quality and data integrity issues.

• I successfully designed, developed and implemented a centralised Microsoft Access reporting Data Mart. Core data was automatically extracted from the SQL Server Defect Management Data Warehouse and denormalised and aggregated to improve reporting query performance. Previously, reporting data was stored inefficiently across multiple Microsoft Access databases which seriously impacted performance and made maintenance very difficult.

• Using Excel VBA and advanced Excel analysis techniques, I successfully streamlined the defect reporting MIS, by designing and implementing flexible and dynamic reporting dashboards that refreshed data directly from the Access data mart via Excel Pivot Tables and Pivot Table Charts. This dramatically reduced the number of required management reports, from over 40 to about 10 core reports, which gave users a much more flexible reporting environment. Previous MIS reports were relatively static with no user interaction capabilities.

EMPLOYMENT HISTORY:

Feb 2009 to Oct 2009 – MOD Army Land Forces Head Quarters (Wilton - Salisbury)

Security Cleared SQL Data Analyst (5 Month Contract extension within ODP - Project Janus)

The aim of Project Janus was to establish a MIS (Management Information System) that would help to streamline the demand and supply of training equipment across the entire British Army, as part of the WFM (Whole Fleet Management) process.

Project Janus Phase 1 responsibilities:-

• I successfully indentified and documented all data coherence issues and information and system process flows across the Whole Fleet Management process for the “As Is” stage of the project. This was achieved by working closely with key business stakeholders to understand their current systems and processes, as well as regular user workshops involving users from across the entire process.

• Based on the agreed “As Is” processes and documented issues, I worked with key business stakeholders to indentify possible “To Be” solutions. Based on my suggestion, “To Be” solutions were split into two areas:-

1. Quick-win or Interim Solutions – Excel and Access based solutions that could be implemented in a relatively short period of time and gain immediate benefits to the business.

2. Long-Term Solutions - Solutions that would potentially resolve all known “As-Is” issues, but would take a considerable amount of time and/or money to implement.

Security Cleared SQL Data Analyst / VBA Developer (3 Month Contract within Whole Fleet Management)

Contract objective - Automate the production of the PSP (Product Supply Plan), which is used to both manage and forecast training equipment demand and supply across the entire British Army.

Key achievements include:-

• Working closely with key stakeholders within Land Forces Equipment Plans, I successfully developed and implemented a Microsoft Access solution that integrated disparate data from many different sources including CSV Text Files, SQL Server and Oracle. Previously this was a manual process that was both time consuming and extremely error prone.

• Working closely with key stakeholders within Land Forces Equipment Plans, to fully understand and document both user and system requirements, I successfully designed, developed and implemented a multi user Microsoft Access VBA tool that helped to capture the training equipment demands from British Army Formations. The tool used Excel to create both the Platform Demand Plan and Platform Supply Plan reports. The reports were used by Army training fleet managers and suppliers, to proactively plan and schedule the supply of equipment. Previously this process was achieved manually and resulted in many data integrity issues as well as being extremely time consuming and manpower intensive.

Sep 2008 to Feb 2009 - Atlas Consortium/EDS Reading (5 Month Contract)

Security Cleared SQL Reporting Analyst (Defect Management)

Contract objective – Improve the existing defect management reporting solutions by utilizing Microsoft Access & Excel, VBA, SQL Server 2000 and Borland Star Team.

Key achievements include:-

• Working closely with key users, I designed and implemented a centralised Microsoft Access reporting Data Mart. Core data was denormalised and aggregated to improve reporting query performance.

May 2008 To July 2008 - Full-time study for MCITP certification in SQL Server 2005 Business Intelligence, after resigning from Honda in May 2008

May 2008 - Resigned from Honda to attend self funded MCITP SQL Server 2005 BI training courses at approved Microsoft training company (F1 Computing) in Bath. Courses were taken during June and July and covered:

• MCTS Exams 70-445 (BI Implementation & Maintenance).
• MCTS Exams 70-446 (Designing a BI Infrastructure).

• Aug 2008 - Passed MCTS Exam 70-445 (SQL Server 2005 BI Implementation & Maintenance).

1987 to May 2008 - HONDA OF THE UK MANUFACTURING (Swindon)

Senior SQL Data Analyst – Market Quality Data & Systems Group

Senior SQL Data Analyst responsible for the design, development and implementation of key Market Quality Management Information and Reporting Solutions utilising Visual Basic, VBA, SQL Server 2000/2005 T-SQL, SSRS, DTS/SSIS, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access

The role consisted of two core areas of responsibility:

1. SQL Server 2000/2005 - Market Quality Data Warehouse

• Responsible for the ongoing development and maintenance of a SQL Server 2000/2005 Data Warehouse. The Data Warehouse encompassed key factory and market related data, including warranty, production, sales and customer survey results. The Data Warehouse played a critical role in Honda understanding its market situation, from a cost, quality and customer satisfaction perspective.

2. Iterative development of bespoke Market Quality Management Information Systems

Some project examples include:

• Using Visual Studio 2005, I designed, developed and implemented a SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services (SSRS) solution that allowed senior engineers within the Market Quality Department to access a dashboard that summarised daily warranty claim information for their specific areas of responsibility. The solution included both dynamic reporting and graphical representations of the warranty claim data and was used extensively by engineers to aid early detection of potential vehicle defects within the market.

• Using VB.Net, SQL Server 2005 and Excel VBA automation, I successfully developed an application that analysed and report on Honda customer market survey returns. The project involved working very closely with the market research organisation GFK NOP. Due to the complexity in the format of the returned surveys, complex data manipulation routines had to be developed in order that the information could be effectively utilised by the application.

• Using VB6, SQL Server 2000/2005 and Excel & Access VBA automation, I led the design, development and implementation of a fully automated vehicle warranty claims analysis and reporting application. The system was used extensively to quickly identify and analyse potential market related quality issues and monitor and forecast Honda’s multi-million pound warranty budget against various internal and external business KPI targets. The application led to early detection of numerous market quality issues, which helped to vastly reduce the impact on both warranty costs and customer satisfaction.

• I developed a bespoke VB6 Query Builder ActiveX Form Control. The control allowed users without any SQL knowledge to create and execute SQL queries against a predefined data source. The success of the control meant that it was used extensively by many other applications as a means of capturing user generated SQL Script. It also offered users familiarity from application to application, as well as vastly improving user functionality.
