I have worked of a wide range of building and civil engineering schemes and feel that I am competent in most aspects of construction management.
I have worked on a broad range of construction project ranging from heavy civils through to residential developments and brown fiels site remediation. Within these positions I have looked after both technical and commercial roles along with project and site management.
I am a conscientious and versatile individual, with a very ‘can do attitude’ to all aspect of construction management. I am equally competent at hands on site management through to departmental management. I am computer literate and very commercially aware I have worked within the Construction Industry for the last 19 years undertaking various management positions and feel that I have excelled in each of them.

Business/ Project Manager
The Role : Reporting to the Commercial Director
This role was created for me at the request of the Managing Director. Like many companies Flynn Construction was struggling in the economic downturn, my remit was to help stabilise and inject growth into the company. In the 18 months I have been in this role I have helped the company turn from a £900K per year small scale sub-contractor into a £3 million contractor working direct for major blue chip utility companies and major construction firms working on public sector schemes.
Whilst working for Flynn Construction I have also taken on full responsibility for all estimating, quantity surveying and project management functions of the business.

Technical and Commercial Director
The Role` : Reporting to the Managing Director
As “Technical and Commercial” Director I was responsible for overseeing all the Land and Pre-commencement appraisals, valuations and procurement. I was also responsible for all of the technical issues that arose from a development; this included demolition, remediation, and management of the infrastructure from concept through to adoption.
My main duties included assessing and implementing the most cost efficient construction solutions, specialising in ground works and infrastructure. This included the introduction and implementation of new procedures.
My responsibilities extended to managing the commercial and procurement function, with four quantity surveyors and a buyer reporting to me, the team ensured continuity and control of all materials and sub contractors.
The role also included project management of all residential developments, monitoring project progress, this involved working closely with the construction department reviewing and controlling project cost to completion and making sure that all work was done to the correct specification, the role involved after sales customer care and NHBC resolutions.

Freelance Technical Consultant
Whilst working freelance I acted as a technical consultant for Wainhomes on a part time bases, I also worked as a quantity surveyor for a medium sized surfacing company and a quantity surveyor/ estimator for a small Civil Engineering Company.
The role as Technical Consultant developed with Wainhomes as the Company enjoyed rapid expansion and after six months I was appointed as Technical Director.

Development Manager
Morris Homes (North) LtdThe role : Reporting to Technical Director
As Development Manager along with my assistant I was responsible for all technical issues from land acquisition through the construction phases and on to final adoption. This includes the management of all design, demolition, remediation, Infrastructure management and supervision, and full technical and commercial support throughout the construction phase and on to final adoption.
As part of the senior management team my duties included deputising for the Technical Director in his absence.

Geotechnical Manager
Morris Homes (North) LtdThe role : Reporting to Technical Director
As Geotechnical manager I was responsible for establishing all costs associated with foundations. This included proposing foundation methods and detailed cost analysis from land acquisition through to the construction phase, often involving consultation with specialist foundation contractors. Resulting from my alternative proposals, significant savings have been made by Morris Homes.
Remediation of brownfield developments has been an important aspect of the role, this has included detailed cost comparisons and consultation with environmental consultants, local authorities, Environment agency and NHBC.
Project management skills are a pre-requisite of the job, this has included the management of piling operations and ground improvement techniques including NHBC approval and any design works required.
As an additional role I have also managed the backlog of outstanding adoption agreements and with the assistance of my Site engineer reduced the company bond costs by almost 70% in the first two years before handing all the sites over to a dedicated Adoption Engineer when I took the promotion to Development Manager.

Full responsibility for the technical and commercial activities of the entire development from acquisition through to final adoption, this was principally a site based role with approximately sixty active sites at any one time. All infrastructure, and estate development works was procured and managed by myself and a further two engineers who reported to me.

The overall role was to Project manage multiple Civil Engineering Schemes which included

• Major Sewer and flood alleviation works

• Retaining Walls
• Minor works Schemes
• Tunnelling Works
• Sewer rehabilitation schemes
• Surfacing works
These schemes ranged from £250K to £4M and I normally managed three schemes at any one time. The majority of these schemes where for the water authorities of local authorities. On these schemes I carried out full quantity surveying duties and estimating for any contract variations.

DCT Civil Engineering LtdI joined the company straight from college; it was predominantly a training role for the first few years. I obtained a vast amount of experience allowing me to progress through to senior engineer / site agent within three years.
The contracts at DCT where varied, they included Sewer and Highway construction to tunnelling / drainage projects for a number of different customers, these included British Rail, Local Councils and Water Industries.
